Greetings from “The Home” front …

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!   The residents sure had fun decorating cookies at Kitchen Cappers on Monday for our St Patrick’s party today! We played St Patrick’s Bingo in addition to enjoying the special treats.

Besides Kitchen Capers on Monday there was also Newscurrents and Lotion in Motion.  Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit, Rhythm Band and setting up for our Rummage Sale.  Speaking of the Rummage Sale – we had lots of great buys and the staff, residents and public took advantage to get several bargains.  There was Name That Tune and a Van Trip to Shopko on Thursday.  Elaine also continued reading “The Story” which is part of our Bible study series.  After Church on Friday we partied hearty with St Patrick’s Day bingo and cookies.  Saturday brings Kaffee Hus at 2 p.m. and Gail will be here for another round of bingo.  The Saturday movie matinee this week is “Life with Father”.  This 1947 film is the comic true story of Clarence Day, a stockbroker who wants to be master of his house but finds his wife and children ignoring him … hmmmm does that sound familiar.   Should be a great movie with stars like Elizabeth Taylor, William Powell and Irene Dunne.

Next week Spring begins on Monday so we are celebrating with a Spring Fling in the afternoon.  There will be special music by the Hayshakers.  The Jet Set Club (for our residents under 70) meets on Tuesday and is planning a spaghetti dinner using a top secret recipe from Bobby Balstad.  Can hardly wait to try it!  There is also Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  There is Sit & Be Fit on Wednesday this week along with quilting with Mary and her gang in the afternoon.  Last week the residents helped pick colored squares of fabric that eventually will be coordinated into a block that will make up a quilt.  The Men’s Club will meet later on to talk about hunting trivia.  Thursday brings Choir in the morning and Table Hockey in the afternoon.  It will be church on Friday morning and then, sadly, a farewell party for Pastor Nathan in the afternoon.  He is moving to Texas to lead a new church in Carrollton.  The residents and staff will certainly miss him.

We also said Good Bye to resident Al Kreiger who move back home with his family.  While we will miss Al and his wonderful sense of humor, we are thrilled for him and we wish him all the best.

Luther Memorial Home is looking for a Kaffee Hus attendant for Saturday and Sunday.  The hours are 1:30 to 4 p.m.  Duties include serving coffee and treats to our residents and visitors.  If you enjoy working with the elderly – this job is for you.  Please apply at LMH or print an application online at www.luthermemorialhome.com.  Looking forward to having you join our staff!

We want to wish Happy Birthday to residents Harris Woell and Chris Larson (March 19th) and Becky Brooks on March 21st.  Staff members with upcoming birthdays include Kayla Whetzel (March 21) and Shelby Krueger March 24th.  Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day.

Until next time … a thought for the week … What I admire about Columbus is not his having discovered a new world, but his having gone to search for it on the faith of his own opinion.  Believe in yourself!
