Greetings from “The Home” front …
I think Spring has Sprung and gone elsewhere – the cool weather did not stop our residents from enjoying a van trip around Mayville/Portland on Monday. There was lots of reminiscing about old neighbors and who lived where. What a wonderful surprise Bruflat Lutheran Church had for our auxiliary birthday party on Tuesday - the Hayshakers came and performed. I hope you were able to come to the quilt show put on by Mary Peterson and her gang on Wednesday. We had a good turnout of residents to enjoy the variety of quilts and the story each quilt told. There were old fashioned quilts from flour sack material to new geometric designs. Thank you so much Mary and everyone involved with this project – we appreciate all your efforts and volunteering at LMH. Thursday brought Choir in the morning with pretty nails and bunco in the afternoon. There was bingo in the evening. After church on Friday, the American Legion/VFW were here for “real” bingo. Of course we always have a good turnout for them. Saturday there is shopping /visitations in the morning and crosswords in the afternoon. Our Saturday movie matinee is Seabiscuit. And don’t forget – Kaffee Hus on both Saturday and Sunday from 2-3:30.
Next week we start off Memorial Day with newscurrents and trivia. Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band. Wednesday is Emergency Preparedness Day and all of our departments will be participating. Molly will be here on Wednesday for reminisce and we hope to have lemonade on the patio in the afternoon. Thursday – JUNE FIRST ALREADY!!! – we have Name that tune in the morning followed by a retirement party for two activity assistants – Elaine Johnson and Pam Sedler. We will miss them both – but wish them well enjoying their retirement. Friday is National Donut Day and we will be celebrating with Purple Cow drinks and donuts.
Also retiring this month is TA Janice DeSautel and our van drivers Wendell and Judy Berg. Janice made sure residents got to meals on time and assisted those who needed help. Wendell and Judy were responsible for taking our residents to various Dr appointments in Fargo and Grand Forks – no matter what the weather they were there to drive. Best wishes to all three of you on your retirement – we will miss you.
As promised in last week’s column – here are the staff members who received awards for years of service at LMH during our staff recognition party on May 17th. Geri Voltz (Laundry) and Becky Moen (Nursing) for 35 years!!!! WOW!!! Shelley Aune (Medical Records) for 30 years!! Laurice Vanzee (CMA) 25 years. Susan Anderson (CNA), Monica Ellingson (CNA), Julie Johnson (CNA), Katie Sayler (Dietary) 20 years. Irma Bennet (TA), Sharon Domier (TA), Curtis Moen (Dietary) 15 years. Susan Kellett (Laundry), Mitch Krueger (Nursing), Nicole Lee (CNA) 10 years. Jordan Eken (Dietary), Kyle Eken (Dietary), Suzanne Olson (Housekeeping), Pam Sedler (Activities) and Mary Turpin (Housekeeping) 5 years. I think this says a lot about Luther Memorial Home and how our staff feel about it. It is a great place to work and our staff’s longevity speaks for itself.
Congratulations all of you hard workers.
Our sincere sympathy to the friends and family of Ray Hanson who passed away May 20th. Ray enjoyed visiting and joking with the staff. He was a man of great faith and looked forward to hearing devotions from our activity staff and clergy. Rest in Peace Ray.
We have one LMH resident and one Sun Center resident birthday this coming week: Happy Birthday to Grace Wolden on May 27th and to Carole Amb on May 29th. Staff members with May birthdays include Alyssa Eichhorn (May 27th), Helena Kostuck (May 29) and Travis Surface May 31st. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week (and especially our graduating seniors) - if you don’t spread your wings you won’t know how far you can fly …
