Greetings from “The Home” front …

I hope that all of you had a very Happy Thanksgiving and were able to share the day with your frinds and family.  We had many families spending time and eating dinner with their loved ones here at LMH. Thanksgiving and Christmas are always busy days.

Monday started out with Newscurrents in the morning and our Turkey Races in the afternoon.  This game is similar to our Horse Races and is played with dice.  The residents had a good time rooting for their favorite turkey –and  there was lots of laughter.  There was sit and be fit on Tuesday morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  We had a lovely Thanksgiving church service on Wednesday morning and then reminisced about Thanksgiving in the afternoon.  The ladies also got their nails done just in time for the holiday.   On Thursday, in the afternoon, the residents played Wheel of Fortune – alas, Pat and Vanna were busy with their own Thanksgiving so could not be here to play with us.  We had a good time anyway!  There was Mass on Friday morning and we were treated to accordion music by Paul Swanstrom in the afternoon.  Saturday brings Kaffee Hus at 2 p.m. in the dining room.  There is also bingo in the activity room.  Our Saturday movie matinee is “The Stratton Story”. – It is the true story of Monty Stratton, a Major League pitcher for the Chicago White Sox from 1934-38.  He loses his leg in a hunting accident but becomes determined to leave the game on his own terms.  Starring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson and it won an Oscar for best motion picture.  This sounds like a real winner!  Molly will be here on Sunday for Down Memory Lane at 2 p.m. in the activity room.

Next week we begin our holiday decorating!  There will be newscurrents on Monday morning and in the afternoon an Abbot & Costello Christmas Special video.  There is bingo in the evening.  Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit in the morning – we sure need that after all the Thanksgiving goodies and with Christmas just around the corner.   In the afternoon it will be the Auxiliary Birthday Party. Bethany will be the hostess. It is crafting Wednesday – we are making snowman soup in the morning – hmmm sounds interesting.  And we welcome back Mary Peterson and her gang of quilters who are back with us to do some quilting with the residents.  There first project is Blankets for Babies.  Thursday morning we have choir with Nancy and in the afternoon while we continue our Christmas decorating some of the the residents will be watching An Old Fashioned Christmas video.  There is bingo in the evening.

We have one resident birthday next week – Happy Birthday to Angie Gaspers who celebrates on November 27th.  Two staff members have birthdays – Donna Dick also on the 27th and Tony Bushy on November 28th.  Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Our sincere sympathy to the friends and family of William Julson who passed away on November 11th.  Willie was a resident of our Sun Center Apartments.  He enjoyed visiting with other residents and often attended our special events.  Rest in Peace Willie – you will be missed.

Until next time … a thought for the week … give without remembering and always receive without forgetting…
