Greetings from “The Home” front …

Hello Again – it’s great to be back even with this cold weather.  Until you go visit another city you never really appreciate how nice it is to be back in your own hometown with little crime, no traffic and friendly people.

The residents at LMH were busy this week. Special Thank you to Sun Center Resident Marion Johnson who provided piano music Sunday afternoon for our residents to enjoy.  She was assisted by Chris Larson.  We appreciate both of you!  There was newscurrents and Wheel of Fortune on Monday.  We had Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band with Nancy on Tuesday.  The residents reminisced on Wednesday morning with Molly and Mary and her quilters were here in the afternoon to work on another great project with everyone involved.  The Peter Boe 3rd graders were finally able to come to visit their “adopted” grandparents on Thursday.  They played bingo together.  Elaine continued reading “The Story” later in the afternoon.  Friday brought church, popcorn and pretty nails.  On Saturday there is “real” bingo and our movie matinee is “Europe to the Max”.  This is an arm chair video vacation seeing the important and magnificent sites of Europe all while relaxing at home!  We have Crosswords on Sunday afternoon and Don’t Forget – Daylight Savings Time Begins!  Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour!  Next week there is Kitchen Cappers on Monday when the residents will be frosting St. Patrick’s Day cookies to use for our party.  Tuesday is Sit & Be Fit, Rhythm Band and we will be setting up for our Rummage Sale on Wednesday.  The sale is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC starting at noon on Wednesday.  Thursday brings Name That Tune and a Van Trip to Shopko for some retail therapy.  Friday is St Patrick’s Day and after church in the morning we will have Bingo with a light lunch to follow in the afternoon.  There is also pretty nails – wonder if anyone is going to try our green nail polish!

While I was gone I missed a few birthdays – belated birthday wishes to Resident Alice Strand and Sun Center resident Marion Ronholm on March 2nd and Resident Galen Geer on March 9th. Sun Center Residents Delores Hjelmstad and Robert Aasen celebrated birthday on March 6th. Staff members also having birthdays included Wanda Freadrich (March 1), Marcus Dale (March 4), Jennifer Almanza and Sabrina Amundson (March 7th) and Wendell Berg on March 8.   Now that I am up to date there are no resident birthdays next week.  Happy Birthday to staff members Jeric Houdek, Kristen Azzato and Lauren Coronado who celebrate on the 10th, Meagan Karolus and Jessica Volla on the 16th and Tammie Pierce on the 17th. Sun Center resident Phyllis Dakken celebrates on March 11th. Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day!

One very special birthday that we could not forget is Scooby our therapy dog – Scooby celebrated her 10th birthday on March 8th!

We are pleased that none of our residents have passed away these past few weeks but two of our staff members lost loved one.  CMA Laurice Van Zee lost her husband Clair on February 16th and Lee Brenna’s mother, Darlyne, died on February 19th.  Our sincere sympathy to both of you and may happy memories of them bring comfort to you now.

Until next time… a thought for the week …  Life is like a book.  Some chapters are sad, some exciting, but if you never turn the page you will never know what the next chapter has in store for you …
