Greetings from “The Home” front …
Take me out to the ballgame! That’s how we celebrated the opening of the baseball season on Monday. Residents and staff dressed in their favorite baseball team colors and clothes, played baseball trivia and enjoyed cookies, Puff corn and crackerjacks. There was much rivalry on which team was going to have a good season. Lots of Twins fans, a few Yankees and one Mariner! Tuesday we got into shape with Sit & Be Fit and Pam sang and played guitar at Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Pastor Dianne was here for Bible Study Wednesday morning and we had an old fashion Easter Egg hunt later on. What a special musical treat we had on Thursday when Mike Bakken and the 2nd Wind Band came to play for us. The dining room was packed with enthusiastic residents and they certainly had a good time. Thank you Mike and all the other band members – we appreciate your taking time to come and play for us. Friday it’s church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour. Saturday brings a weekend word search, real bingo and our Saturday movie matinee “The Blind Side”. It is the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless boy who became an All American football player and 1st round draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.
Next week we the food committee meets in the morning on Monday, followed by newscurrents and Bunco. Looks like Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday. Wednesday brings Name That Easter Tune and Mary and her gang of quilters will be here in the afternoon. It will be fun to see how the quilt blocks are coming along. We also plan to dye Easter eggs. There will be a Maundy Thursday church service on Thursday and the Peter Boe Third Graders will be here for their monthly visit with their adopted grandparents. There will also be Good Friday church Service in the morning and Fruity Friday Smoothies in the afternoon.
Congratulations to CNA Megan Karolus and husband Matt on the birth of their little girl Elizabeth Ann Karolus who was born April 2nd. Matt also works at LMH in the kitchen and housekeeping. The residents and staff are looking forward to meeting her.
Melinda Leland has been knitting dish cloths for several years here at LMH. She sells them in our gift cart, makes them for friends and donates them to worthy projects. Melinda just recently reached the 1000 dishcloth mark. Congratulations and Way to Go Melinda.
We were saddened by the passing of resident Hilbert Satrom who died March 31st. Hilbert was with us a short time but enjoyed our musical activities, morning coffee and visits with residents and staff. Our sympathy to his friends and family.
We would like to wish Happy Birthday to resident Connie Strand whose birthday is April 14th. Sun Center residents with upcoming birthdays include Edith Lundstrom on April 8th and Hilma Hovde and Dorothy Enger who celebrate on April 12th. Staff member Becky Moen also has a birthday on April 8th. Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day.
Until next time … a thought for the week … never be a prisoner of your past – it was just a lesson – not a life sentence.
