Teamwork on the puzzle brings giggles and smiles from Helen H and LaVern B

Greetings from “The Home” front …

Another busy and hot week here at LMH – Gail was in on Sunday to play trivia with our residents.  A lot of people were enjoying the Farmer’s Bowl weekend and stopped by to visit.  Pam Sedler played her guitar and sang for several residents and also in Meadowlark Lane.   Thanks Pam – I know everyone enjoyed hearing you play.  Monday brought Newscurrents and a time to remember 9/11/2001.  The residents talked about where they were when this terrible tragedy occurred.  We held a moment of silence.  In the afternoon several residents went to Dollar General for some retail therapy.  From the number of bags we brought back in the van it looked like they had a good time! Since it is National Assisted Living week, the administrative staff honored our Sun Center residents with a party on Monday afternoon.  Leonard & Betty Wahl entertained and everyone was treated to delicious pie and coffee.  Tuesday it was Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.    Pam was here again on Wednesday for an old fashion sing-along.  We played The Price is Right in the morning.   Nancy played the piano for Name that Tune Thursday morning and there was horse racing in the afternoon.  After that Elaine read from the book Whence You Came.  Friday brings church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour.    Sandy will be here on Saturday for Down Memory Lane.  There is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room on both Saturday and Sunday.  The Saturday movie matinee is an arm chair vacation to Mt Rainier and the Olympic Peninsula.

We have a special event coming next Thursday September 21st.  It’s our Harvest Ball with music by the Hayshakers.  A special thank you to Janice Erickson and Thrivent Financial  who helped to sponsor this fun “prom” for our residents.  However, before the Ball on Thursday we have other fun activities going on during the week.  Monday is Kitchen Cappers and the residents are making apple dumplings.  Darn – I am not going to be here for that!!  Tuesday is Sit & Be Fit (we need that after those dumplings!) and Rhythm Band.  Sandy is doing a special presentation on Wednesday showing the residents how to make a rhubarb leaf stepping stone – should be interesting.  On Thursday morning we have Bible study and then the Harvest Ball in the afternoon.  Autumn officially begins on Friday and it is also Fall (get the pun?) prevention education day with various word games.  There is church in the morning and a potato chip social in the afternoon.  We will be taste testing several varieties of potato chips.

We have two resident birthdays next week – Gerald Evanstad on September 21st and Bobby Noblin on September 22nd.    Several staff members have birthdays next week including Kathy Gangelhoff, Irma Benet, Janet Nielson and Jacquelyn White all on September 16th.  Nancy Bjerke and Sandy Braaten have theirs on September 17th and Lisa Nelson celebrates hers on September 18th.  Courtney Savage on the 22nd.   Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!!

I will be on vacation next week so there may or may not be a column (depending if I can get my laptop to work!) so I will leave you with this thought for the week (s) … The meaning of life is to find your gift.  The purpose of life is to give it away.  Make it a great week!
