The Home Front

Greetings from “The Home” front …

WOW!  The jet setters (our residents 70 & under) sure had a great party last week.  Our “grill masters” Bobby, Del, Randy and Galen with the help of Lisa and Stacey cooked up delicious hamburgers with all the trimmings – grilled onions, mushrooms, cheese, bacon, jalapenos , plus lettuce , tomatoes  & pickles– you name it – I swear it was on those hamburgers.  We also had French fries and chocolate milkshakes.  There was 60’s rock n roll music in the background to complete the party.  Brought back a lot of memories of after movie dates!

This week January 22 to 28 is Activities Professionals Week.  A special thank you to Lisa and her staff for all they do to enhance the lives of our residents.  In appreciation Lisa also entertained her staff members with dinner and a gift on Monday .

There was newcurrents and bunco on Monday – heard lots of laughter and bell ringing during Bunco.  And Bingo in the evening.  Tuesday the Activities Staff and Auxiliary ladies served and the kitchen made brownies with ice cream for the auxiliary birthday party.  Elaine Klath came and entertained us with piano music and a sing-a-long.  Mary and her gang of quilters were here on Wednesday to help the residents  with a special project.  What a wonderful outreach ministry Mary and her friends have created here at LMH with the quilting parties.  Thank you all SO MUCH for your caring.  B-I-N-G-O – the van went to Portland Thursday afternoon for real bingo!!!  What a fun time and we even had a few winners!  Afterwards everyone enjoyed delicious homemade desserts – what a special treat!  Friday is church in the morning and the VFW here for another round of bingo in the afternoon.  On Saturday there is Reminiscing in the activity room and Kaffee Hus in the dining room – both at 2 p.m.  There will also be Kaffee Hus on Sunday.  Our Saturday matinee movie is Bingo the Dog – wow – we are sure bingo-ing a lot this week.  The movie is about a runaway circus dog who befriends a young boy who has trouble fitting in and making friends after moving across the country.  Sounds like a good movie!

Next week we start out with Newscurrents in the morning and Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon.  We will be making Strawberry Banana Cheesecake Salad.  Oh I hope I am working that day – it sounds delicious!  There is Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday.  Pastor Nathan will be here on Wednesday for Bible Study in the morning and the residents will be making heart bouquet pictures in the afternoon.  The Jet Setters meet again to make Tacos/Taco Salads on Thursday and we’ll be playing table hockey in the afternoon.  We had so much fun doing that last month!  Then it’s church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour on Friday!  Can you believe we are already into the month of February?  Where did January go??? Residents are also busy voting for our 2017 Valentine King and Queen who will be announced at our Valentine Party on February 14th.    So many activities to enjoy!
We have several birthdays this coming week:  Happy birthday to resident Eldris Wilkens who celebrates her birthday on January 30th.  I don’t usually include our Sun Center Apt residents in my birthday greetings (not sure why – maybe I’ll start a New Year Resolution and include them!) – BUT we do want to wish Sun Center Resident Walter Rindy all the best on his 100th birthday January 24th!!!  Way to go Walter!!!  Staff members having birthdays this week are Makenzie Bring and Mitchelle Elliott (Jan 28), Rachel Winger (Jan 29) and Lucy Lindaas (Jan 31).  February Birthdays include staff members Jada Nygaard (Feb 1) and Susan Anderson (Feb 2).   Happy Birthday to all of you.

We were saddened by the passing of resident Gordon Domier.  Gordy was here at LMH only a short time but was a resident of Sun Center Apts prior to moving into LMH.  While at Sun Center he enjoyed playing bingo and visiting other residents and riding on his scooter.  At LMH he enjoyed listening to music and visiting with staff.   A memorial service is being held Friday (Jan 27) at 2 p.m. in our chapel.  Rest in Peace Gordon.

Until next time … a rather long thought for the week ….  Learn how to: Have fun without drinks, Talk without a cellphone, Smile without selfies, Dream without drugs and Love without conditions.
