Greetings from “The Home” front …

We had a nice surprise when the Ebenezer Men’s Gospel group came to perform for us on Sunday in the chapel.  They did a wonderful job and sang/played many of the familiar gospel hymns that our residents were able to sing along to. Thanks guys for brightening our resident’s day!!
Monday the van took us to Shopko for retail therapy.  The weather cooperated and it was nice to get out and see what’s new and what is on sale. Special thanks to volunteers:  Linda Strand, Janice Erickson and Linda Kaldor  who helped push wheelchairs so everyone could get a chance to shop. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and then Lane Lindseth was here in the afternoon for a piano concert.  The residents enjoyed his performance. We continued reading “Whence You Came”on Wednesday morning and then played Bunco in the afternoon.  Later there was still time for lemonade on the patio.  We are taking advantage of the good weather to get in as many days out there as possible.  It is nice to enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful courtyard with all the flowers in bloom.  Chuck Fox was here on Thursday to perform – he is always a big hit with our residents.  Prior to his performance we had Bible Study in the morning and root beer floats in the early afternoon. Of course there was bingo in the evening.  Friday brought church in the morning followed by pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon.  On Saturday we will have Card Bingo, plus kaffee Hus .  Our Saturday movie matinee is “Red Skelton”.  He was such a funny comedian and I miss his great sense of humor and many characters.

Next week on Monday the van will be going to the Hatton area for sightseeing.  While some of our residents are on the van, others will be playing trivia and also hoping to get a glimpse of the solar eclipse.  There is Bingo in the evening.  Can you believe it is time for the Auxiliary Birthday party on Tuesday next week – where do the days go!  Elm River Church will be our hostess and we will be celebrating August birthdays!  Wednesday brings a new word game called “Just Saying”.  There will also be crafts and tea time on the patio.  There is choir on Thursday morning, followed by pretty nails and a continued reading of ”Whence You Came”.  The American Legion/VFW will be here on Friday for real bingo.  Of course there is always church in the morning.

There are no resident birthdays next week but we do have several staff members celebrating their special day.  Happy Birthday to Laurice VanZee and Hannah Elllegaard on August 19, Megan Evans on August 22, twins Jaclyn and Roxanne Rindy and Connie Christianson on August 23,  and Taylyn Thompson on August 24th.  Best wishes to all of you!

Dorothy and Gordon Bennett celebrated their anniversary on August 13th.  Best wishes to you also.

I am off to Medora for a few days but my column will be back next week … until then … a thought for the days ahead … for every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness …
