Greetings from "The Home" front...

Another busy week here at LMH!  We started out on Sunday with Wheel of Fortune as our residents tried to solve the puzzle with various clues. Lots of laughter and fun guessing what the puzzle said.  On Monday Molly read inspirational short stories before Kitchen Capers in the afternoon.  ChiChi and Lysa made a French Silk Dessert for our taste testers to enjoy.  All of them proclaimed it to be delicious.  There was a rousing game of Bunco later in the day and Bingo in the evening.  A fun filled day!  On Tuesday we had Newscurrents in the morning and then everyone helped with spring planting.  We started several seeds in containers and are hoping for the best that they will germinate so we can plant them outside in the courtyard later this year.  Wednesday was a special day as we ordered food from the B&B restaurant for our noon meal.  The residents really enjoyed the chance to have Deluxe burgers, onion rings, pizza and other special meals that they could order from the B&Bs menu. During crafts in the afternoon, we made “thinking of you” greeting cards that our residents can send to friends and family.  Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday morning and the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails later in the day.  We also started working on our Mother’s Hands Project – we plan to have this done by Mother’s Day so our residents can give them to family members.  Pastor Deb is back for church on Friday morning and then our guests from the American Legion and VFW will be here to play $BINGO$! Our residents always look forward to seeing these members of our community for some fun rounds of Bingo. There is Sit & Be Fit on Saturday, along with Bingo and Jeopardy.

Molly will be here on Sunday to play some word games with our residents. Next week we will be sending some of our staff members to the ND Long Term Care Convention in Bismarck; we hope everyone enjoys learning and comes back with some great new knowledge and happenings for long term care in our state! Tuesday brings us on a trip to Nevada during our Arm Chair Travel, Name that Tune and a craft on Wednesday plus Chichi will go shopping for the residents. Thursday we will have Pretty Nails in the afternoon and Bingo later in the evening. On Friday, Pastor Deb will be here for church in the morning and then we will have a Cinco de Mayo themed Happy ½ Hour.

We welcome Tracy McGillis who will be an on-call staff member here in our Activity Department.  We look forward to having her here to help us out.

There are no resident birthdays this week and only one staff member celebrating a birthday.  Happy Birthday to Sophia Conner whose birthday is May 2nd.

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Roger Syvertsen who passed away April 21st.  Roger and his wife Florence (also a resident here at LMD) recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.  Roger enjoyed visiting with staff, listening to music and watching tv. We are also saddened by the passing of Carol Kost, who passed away on April 25th. Carol worked as a nurse at LMH for many years and enjoyed spending her time coming to activities, working on crossword puzzles, and trying her best to keep the deer away from her birdfeeder outside her room. Rest in Peace Roger and Carol – you will both be missed.

Until next time … a thought for the week from TV personality Mr. Rogers – There are three ways to ultimate success.  The first is to be kind.  The 2nd way is to be kind.  The third way is to be kind.
