Greetings from “The Home” front …
On Sunday for our non-football residents – or those who had given up on NDSU! – we played 5 square! There was lots of laughter as we came up with names starting with the letter “M” – trust me there are lots of Norwegian names that this Washington State girl had never heard before! Monday brought trivia in the morning followed by Men’s Club. The men enjoyed learning some baseball facts and just visiting with each other. Chris Larson led a Resident Council meeting later on and then there was Bingo in the evening. It was a busy and fun filled day! Chichi filled us in on the latest news during Newscurrents Tuesday morning. We had a rousing game of table hockey (using Swiffer dusters) in the afternoon and reminisced during Down Memory Lane. Lysa led Choir on Wednesday morning followed by Bunco in the afternoon. Bunco is becoming a very popular game with our residents and it is also my favorite. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study Thursday morning and the ladies got their nails done during Pretty Nails in the afternoon. We also had a rousing fly swatter ball game and then Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb was back for Church on Friday morning and later on we celebrated Friday the 13th with Happy ½ hour. After Sit & Be Fit on Saturday there is Bingo and ChiChi will be doing Makeovers.
Next week starts out on Sunday with Words in Words – residents will try to see how many other words they can make from one word. On Monday we will remember Martin Luther King on this January 16th holiday. It is also Marshmallow Day so we will enjoy some marshmallow treats. There is also Bingo in the evening. We have Newscurrents on Tuesday morning followed by Winterfest party – lots of treats and games to break up the winter blues! Lysa will play the piano for Name that Tune on Wednesday, ChiChi goes shopping for our residents and Molly will do a craft project using lemons, oranges and kiwi fruit! HMMMM – that sounds interesting. There is also Kitchen Capers later in the day. We will learn about Zebras Thursday morning and then have Special Music by David Herzog in the afternoon plus Bingo in the evening. Friday brings Church and Pretty Nails. Despite the snow and cold weather we are keeping busy here at “The Home”.
We are welcoming a new part time activity assistant to our department – Erika Onerheim, who also works in the kitchen and will be helping out on busy activity days. Welcome aboard Erika.
We have one resident birthday next week – Kathryn Vinje on January 13th. There are several staff members with birthdays next week – Andrea Berg on January 16th, Tariqa Alexander on January 17th and January 20th is busy with Brett Ulrich, Rikka Edwardson and Cindy Truhlicka all having birthdays on that day. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.
Our sympathy to the friends and family of William (Bill) Bird who passed away January 8th. Bill enjoyed watching TV and receiving visits from our therapy dog, Princess.
Until next time … a thought for the week …. Life is not about expecting, hoping and wishing – it’s about doing, being and becoming
