Residents having fun playing games at our Winterfest Party held on Tuesday Jan. 17
Greetings from “The Home” front …
We were dreaming of tropical breezes when Dave Herzog was here on Thursday to play the steel drums for us! Dave always puts on a great musical show and our residents certainly enjoyed his performance.
We had a busy week starting out on Sunday with some brain teasers and word association games. Monday was Martin Luther King Day. We learned about the civil rights movement and his “I Have a Dream” speech. Monday was also Marshmallow Day. The residents found out about the history of marshmallows and enjoyed some special marshmallow treats. There was also Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents and then Winterfest which we celebrated in the dining room with food, games, prizes and lots of fun. Lysa played for Name That Tune on Wednesday morning and during Crafts the residents used fresh fruit (lemons, oranges and kiwi) and dry Kool-Aid to make abstract pictures. Activity staff also went shopping for residents with special shopping requests. The residents got to know some fun facts about Zebras on Thursday morning. Did you know they can run 40 miles per hour and also sleep standing up! As mentioned above, we all enjoyed music by Dave Herzog in the afternoon. Pastor Deb was here for Church on Friday morning and then the ladies got their nails done during Pretty Nails. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and Sticker crafts.
Soup was in the staff room on Thursday the 19th when our administrative staff furnished various homemade soups for our staff members to enjoy during their meal breaks. There were several varieties to choose from and I naturally had to “taste test” each one!! No favorite – they were all good!
January 23 through 27th is National Activity Professionals Week. The national theme this year is “Adventure Awaits”. Activity staff inspire, engage and enrich the lives of everyone throughout the facility they work in. They promote the well-being of everyone not just the residents. Thank you Lysa, ChiChi, Andrea, Erika, Debbie, Sheila and Molly. We will be having special activities throughout the week. Remembering the 1960s is on Monday and then we will play the Price is Right and Name that 60s Tune. Of course, Bingo in the evening. There is Newscurrents on Tuesday morning and we will find out about cereals of the 60s. Who remembers Crispy Critters, Post Top 3 and Corn Crackos??? Lysa plays piano for Choir on Wednesday, followed by Bunco in the afternoon. Pastor Deb leads a Bible Study on Thursday morning, then it’s Pretty Nails, 1960s Trip Detective and Bingo. Another busy and fun filled day! There will be Church on Friday morning and the American Legion/VFW will be here in the afternoon to play $$$ Bingo. Our residents always look forward to that!
We have one very very special resident birthday on January 24th. Walter Rindy will be 106 years old!! Now that is something to celebrate. Best Wishes Walter – enjoy your special day and may you have many more!! There were no other resident or staff birthdays this week.
Our sympathy to the family and friends of Helen Sharpe who passed away on January 11th. Helen enjoyed our musical events, playing Bingo, visiting with friends and staff and doing jig saw puzzles. Rest in Peace Helen – you will definitely be missed.
Until next time … a thought for the week … Life isn’t about getting and having, it’s about giving and being …
