Greetings from “The Home” front …

We didn’t let the rainy/snowy weather keep us from having fun this week at “The Home”!  Monday started with a food committee meeting, then newscurrents.  There was bunco in the afternoon and bingo in the evening.  Tuesday brought Sit and Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday we now have movies in the evening.  Nancy played for Name that Tune on Wednesday morning and we had pumpkin races later on.  Resident Council also met to plan activities and bring up any concerns the residents may have.  Thursday was a special day because the Peter Boe 3rd graders came to visit their “adopted” grandparents – the children and residents met for the first time and exchanged “getting to know you” notes and pictures.  There was mass and church on Friday morning and in the afternoon, we had popcorn and pretty nails.  There is crosswords on Saturday in activity room at 2 p.m. and Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room.  Our Saturday movie matinee is “Second Hand Lions”.

Don’t forget our Octoberfest Ice Cream Social on Sunday (the 14th) from 2-3:30. It is by free will donation to enjoy delicious treats and ice cream. Lane Lindseth will be here to provide musical entertainment and we will also have our drawing for that beautiful quilt and gas card.  There is still time to buy tickets for the raffle as you can purchase them at the door on Sunday.

Next week we have newscurrents in the morning on Monday followed by Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon.  The resident cooks will be decorating scarecrow cupcakes. Its Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday.  After choir on Wednesday in crafts they will be working on a corn candy project .    Pastor Dianne will lead Bible Study on Thursday and in the afternoon some of the residents will be going to ShopKo for retail therapy.  We will also be playing 5 square later on.  Friday brings mass and church in the morning and pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon.
There are no resident birthdays next week but Sun Center resident Frances Braaten has an October 19th birthday. There are 4 staff birthdays – LeeAnn Strand and D’Anne Warner share an October 15th birthday, Stacey Nosbusch on October 16, and Ashley Odden on October 17th.  Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.

October 16th is Bosses Day; Brett Ulrich has been administrator of Luther Memorial Home since 1988. Thank you Brett for all you do for Luther Memorial Home Residents and staff. We appreciate you! Enjoy your day.

I will be on vacation next week – sticking my toe in the Pacific Ocean at Lincoln Beach, Oregon.  My column will be back on the 26th.  In the meantime … a thought for the week … We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same…  Make it a great week!
