Greetings from “The Home” front …
As Fall edges closer and the days cooler, we are finding more activities to do indoors here at LMH. Sunday was Wheel of Fortune and Kaffee Hus and on Monday after Newscurrents, the residents made individual pizzas during Kitchen Cappers. There was also lotion in motion and bingo in the evening. Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church was the hostess for our Auxiliary Birthday Party on Tuesday afternoon. The residents were entertained by the MPCG 5th Graders. They sang, danced, and played their ukuleles. What a special treat that was! The ladies served coffee and delicious bars. In the morning, the residents got ready for the party with Sit & Be Fit. Wednesday morning brought Name That Tune with Elaine Klath at the piano. Thank you, Elaine, for volunteering your time and talent. We reminisced with Molly at Postcard Wednesday in the afternoon. Molly brought several vintage postcards – many of Portland/Mayville to show and talk about. Postcards are becoming obsolete as more and more travelers take photos on their phones and then post them to friends. On my last vacation, I had a hard time finding postcards to actually MAIL! Ole Amigos!! On Thursday many of the residents took advantage of ordering a noon meal from LaCantina – this was a planned activity requested at Resident Council. Later in the day several residents took the van over to Portland to play bingo. On Friday it was church in the morning and then the American Legion/VFW were here in the afternoon to play “money” bingo. They come once a month to play with our residents and it is a very popular and much appreciated event. Thank you for volunteering your time for our resident’s enjoyment. We will be playing 5 Square on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the activity room and there is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room. Our 3 p.m. Saturday movie matinee is “Turn Your Radio On” – a musical presentation by the Gaither Family Band. I have seen this video and the singing is awesome!
Molly will be here on Sunday for a September Word Game at 2 p.m. in the activity room. Plus Kaffee Hus in the dining room. Monday (October 1st already!) is International Coffee Day and we will have a flavored coffee bar at 2 p.m. in the activity room. Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit in the morning plus Rhythm Band in the afternoon. We will have choir on Wednesday morning and during crafts in the afternoon, the residents will be making a fall basket of leaves to hang on their doors. Pastor Diane will lead Bible Study Thursday morning and Chuck Fox will be here for a “Malts and Music” event in the dining room that afternoon. This is a 50’s day party, so get out those poodle skirts and saddle shoes. Chuck puts on a great toe tapping show which should be lots of fun. Friday is World Teacher Day – many of our residents were teachers during their lifetime. There is church in the morning, followed by pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon.
There are no resident birthdays next week, but staff member Danielle Carr has a Sepember 29 birthday to finish out the month. There are three staff members with first week in October birthdays – Lindsey Ramirez (October 1), Jessica Moch and Angela Overby (October 3rd). Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … Believe in yourself and have faith in your abilities …
