Greetings from "The Home" front …

Snow  & Cold go away - come again some other day!    Our residents are staying warm here at LMH with various activities and fun events.

Several of our residents watched the New Orleans vs. Vikings game on Sunday.  We didn't need them but it was nice to know we had medical personnel available with that tremendous last second finish!  Speaking of Super Bowl (!!!) three of our staff members are volunteering with "Crew 52" - the official Super Bowl/Minnesota hosts.  Kori  Fenske, Vickey Johnson and Pam Sedler will be volunteering in Minneapolis helping to direct tourists and suggesting sites to see and places for them to go.  We'll be anxious to hear about their experiences.

Monday started with Newscurrents , we also had a much delayed baby shower for CNA Rahni Smith and baby Canaan.  He is such a cute little boy!  After the shower some of the residents played cards and Yahtzee and of course there was Monday night bingo.  There was Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  We had Snowman Races on Wednesday - they were so much fun with lots of laughter.  We made deviled eggs during Kitchen Cappers on Wednesday afternoon and then Molly brought various drug bottles and remedies for Down Memory Lane.  There was even a bottle from the  J.E. Fladeland Pharmacy in Portland ND. Anyone remember it???  Pastor Diane was here on Thursday for Bible Study in the morning and we had Name that Tune in the afternoon.  At Men's Club we tackled the burning question - Why is Mars Red?  In case you are wondering  -  rocks & soil on the surface of Mars contain a dust mostly of iron and small amounts of iron rich materials such as chlorine and sulphur.  The rocks and soil were eroded by wind and dust blown across the surface by ancient volcanoes.  There you have it! We have church in the morning on Friday followed by Pretty Nails and Happy Half Hour.  There is Bingo on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the activity room, and Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room.  Our Saturday movie matinee is "Grumpier Old Men" - this is a continuation of last week's movie (Grumpy Old Men).  John and Max resolve to save their beloved bait shop from turning into an Italian restaurant just as its new female owner (Sophia Loren) catches Max's attention.

Next week on Monday we have newscurrents, lotion in motion, cards and penmanship class.  There is Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning with the Auxiliary Birthday Party in the afternoon.  Aurdal is the hostess.  Wednesday brings Trivia in the morning and Quilting with Mary and her gang in the afternoon.  Last time the residents worked on making a "puff" quilt - it will be fun to see how it turns out.  We are also playing Bunco later in the afternoon.  On Thursday we have choir, reading, pretty nails and Bingo in the evening.  The American Legion/VFW will be here on Friday afternoon for "real" bingo.  There is also special Bell Music with Sandy.

Two residents have birthday next week - Kathy Thomas on January 20 and Marlan Fugleberg on January 22nd.  Two Sun Center residents also have birthdays Walter Rindy (January 24) and Lorraine Gotteberg (January 25).  Our administrator Brett Ulrich celebrates his birthday on January 20 along with staff member Cindy Gee.

Until next time …  a thought for the week … Ability is what you're capable of doing.  Motivation determines what you do …
