Greetings from “The Home” front …

Mother Nature was up to her old tricks again on Monday – we had to cancel our sightseeing trip around Portland/Mayville because of the rainy weather.  We played 5 square instead and still had a good time. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  Pam was here with her guitar to play for Rhythm Band and the residents had fun with a sing-along. On Wednesday, the Jet Set group worked on thank you treats for our CNAs in recognition of CNA Appreciation Week which is June 14-21.  Later on, we played Bunco and there was a resident council meeting. Thursday, June 14, was Flag Day so we celebrated with Flag Day Facts & Trivia in the morning and then the ladies got gussied up with pretty nails in the afternoon.  We still had time for ice tea on the patio.   There was church on Friday and in the afternoon we had a special musical treat – Larry Charon came by to sing and play for us.  He puts on a wonderful toe tapping performance and the residents certainly enjoyed themselves.  Saturday brings Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room and real bingo in the activity room.  The 3 p.m. movie matinee is “Majestic Whitetails.” This is a hunting video that follows dozens of trophy bucks along with does and fawns from the harshness of winter, through spring’s renewal and on to the lush plenty of summer.”  If you are a sportsman (or woman) this is a movie you might enjoy.

A special thank you goes out to Jackie Kuhle from Countryside Creations who came and did a flower arranging demonstration last week.  When she finished, she gave the bouquets she had made in the demo to several of our residents.  What a kind gesture.  Thanks again Jackie.

Next week we have special music to celebrate Father’s Day.  The “No Name Band” from Aurdal Church will be here on Sunday in the chapel to play and sing for us.  Their concert starts at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.  There is also Kaffe Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room.   Monday we have a special Men’s Celebration Car Show in the back parking lot.  We have invited several classic car owners to join us to show off their cars plus a couple of staff members will have their convertibles on display.  Naturally we will be serving food – what’s more appropriate than Pie & Ice Cream!!!  Let’s hope Mother Nature cooperates this time!!  There is Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday along with Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  Nancy will be back for Rhythm Band to play the piano.  Wednesday brings Name That Tune in the morning and during crafts in the afternoon, the residents will be making bird seed ornaments to hang in the trees for our feathered friends.  Later on, the men’s club will be playing black jack.  Summer officially begins on Thursday, June 21 – somebody better remind Mother Nature.  We have Bible Study in the morning and the van will be going to ShopKo for some retail therapy in the afternoon.  There is also Pretty Nails later on.  We have Mass, church and bingo with the VFW on Friday.

We have several birthdays next week – I think this is the most we have ever had!!!!  Residents June Hanson, Marion Domier and Terry Anderson have upcoming birthdays – June on June 17, Marion on June 18 and Terry Anderson on June 22.  Sun Center resident Winky Gummer has her birthday June 12 and another Sun Center resident, June Karlstad, has her birthday June 18.  Staff members celebrating next week include Mykathy Jeanty and Jay Hodgson on June 17, Dawn Sparrow on June 20, Trina Thykeson, Natasha Jones and Alexandria Tinoco all on June 21st.  Wow – I hope all of you have a super birthday and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … a thought for the week … Life always offers you a second chance.  It’s called tomorrow.
