Greetings from “The Home” front

Jeepers!!  I was off for a few days to recover from minor surgery and all kinds of exciting things happened here at “The Home” …  Congratulations to Dwight Winger and Janet Nielson who were named June Employees of the Month.  Dwight works in the kitchen and Janet is a TA (Transport Aide).  Then on August 2nd our HR director Adam Edwards and his wife Brandy welcomed a new little boy – Liam Edwards!  I know the residents look forward to meeting this sweet new future basketball player!  The August 2nd Happy ½ hour which included music by Leonard & Betty Wahl was a special memorial from a family friend of Duane Nelson to celebrate Duane’s Life.  It was gift in memory of Duane for everyone to enjoy.  We also received a visit from the Fire Marshall and received a 100% clear report – no deficiencies.  This is a credit to our maintenance department staff that keeps the equipment in tip top shape.

This week we enjoyed Root Beer floats during Root Beer Float Day on Monday.  The weather was perfect to enjoy them in the courtyard and patio.  We also had newscurrents in the morning and lotion in motion in the afternoon.  Tuesday brought Corn Husking,  Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band.  There was crafts on Wednesday where the residents made photo greeting cards.  Afterwards we had resident council and a Wednesday night movie.  Elaine had reading on Thursday and then the residents went shopping at ShopKo for retail therapy.  We also had horse races and bingo in the evening.  There is a picnic in the shelter on Friday during dinner.  Before the picnic we have Mass and Church.  The residents enjoyed popcorn and pretty nails on Friday afternoon.  There is Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 on both Saturday and Sunday in the dining room and Crosswords at 2 p.m. in the activity room.  Our 3 p.m. Saturday movie matinee is “Titanic”.  I don’t think that needs any type of introduction – it’s a great movie!

We have a new event on Sunday at 2 p.m. – Creative Writing with flip flop stories.  This should be a fun and interesting activity.  The Food Committee meets on Monday morning right before Newscurrents.  There is a van trip in the afternoon and a fun new activity – a Spelling Bee!  Who remembers those from Childhood???  We also have Lotion in Motion and bingo in the evening.  It will be a busy day!  On Tuesday, it’s Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  We have invited the Portland and Mayville Senior Center to join our residents for a card party on Wednesday afternoon.  It starts at 2 p.m. and we hope you can come and enjoy the afternoon with us.  There is Bible Study on Thursday morning and at Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon the resident cooks will be making individual veggie pizzas.  These are so good and healthy too!  Friday there is mass and church followed by pretty nails and happy ½ hour.

LMH resident  families, don’t forget the Family Picnic on August 22nd from 5-7th.  There will be live entertainment, good food and a chance to spend time with your loved one and their friends.  Please RSVP to Lisa Nelson (786-3401) by August 15th.

Our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Lois Hanson who passed away on July 29.  Lois enjoyed and participated in many of our activities – especially rhythm band, crafts and morning coffee.  Rest in peace, Lois, you will be missed.

Happy birthday to two residents next week – Lucy Fenske on August 13th and Arlene Olstad on August 14th.  Hadley Verwest in Sun Center has a birthday on August 14th also.  There are several staff members celebrating birthdays next week Sandy Abbas and Melinda Donohue (August 12), Kyle Eken (August 13), Melissa Schmidt (August 14), Amanda Malson (August 15), Lisa Gapp (August 16) and Victoria Johnson (August 17).  Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … a thought for the week …How you make others feel about themselves, says a lot about you …
