Greetings from "The Home" front …
The trees must have known we were going to be out sightseeing in Portland/Mayville on Monday - they were all in full bloom - beautiful shades of pink and maroon. The residents oohed and aahed as we passed multiple blooming ones. Some lilacs were just starting their glorious splendor so when we stopped at Mark Heskin's home in Portland, he gave each resident a lilac sprig. What a nice gesture! When we go out again in a couple of weeks the lilac hedges should be awesome.
We would like to introduce our new activity assistant - Rebecca Ingraham. Rebecca will be working 2-3 days a week in the activity dept. Welcome aboard Becca!!!
In addition to our van trip on Monday, we also had newscurrents, played 5 square and did lotion in motion. It's National Police Week and we invited our local sheriff and deputies to join us for coffee time on Tuesday. Our residents enjoyed spending time and getting to know our local law enforcement. There was lots of laughter, joking and comradery. Thank you to all who protect our community. God Bless and keep you safe.
Valley Free Church hosted the Auxiliary Birthday Party in the afternoon. We had a surprise musical treat when the Peter Boe third graders returned and did snippets from their spring concert. The residents always enjoy when children come to visit and sing. What a special day we had on Wednesday when Mary and her quilters gave a beautiful quilt showing of quilts they had made, quilting projects that our residents made and additional quilts from women in the community. Each quilt told a special story. It was planting day on Thursday - the residents got out in the courtyard to help with planting flowers in the raised beds. The courtyard and patio looks so pretty!! We will have our first picnic in the shelter on Friday after church. There will be hamburgers, baked beans, chips and ice cream- can't get much better than that! Following the picnic, the American Legion/VFW will be here for Real Bingo in the dining room. This is always a popular event and gives our residents a chance to make "big bucks". There will be crosswords on Saturday and our 3 p.m. movie matinee is "Corina Corina". It is the story a widower who hires a housekeeper/nanny (Whoopi Goldberg) to care for his daughter. This is a very touching film with comic parts and some poignant ones too. This sound like a good one to see!!!
There is NO KAFFEE HUS this weekend. We are looking for a Kaffee Hus attendant to work this summer (or longer!) on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Must enjoy working with the elderly, making and serving coffee. If this is something you may be interested in please apply, applications are available online at luthermemorialhome.com or at the receptionist desk.
Molly will be here on Sunday to do a patriotic word fill in game at 2 p.m. On Monday, Memorial Day we have coffee from 9-10 in the morning followed by Newscurrents. Molly will be here again for Down Memory Lane talking about long ago Memorial Day traditions. We have bingo in the evening. It's Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning followed by Rhythm Band in the afternoon. We are holding a rummage sale on Wednesday. It is open to the public from noon until 3 p.m. Come and get a great bargain!!! The Jet Set will meet for supper in the evening. There is reading, our parachute game and men's club on Thursday plus bingo in the evening. Friday brings church in the morning and a donut tasting social in the afternoon. OOOH - hope I am working that day!!
