Greetings from “The Home” front …
We would like to say thank you to the area veterans who joined our men’s club for coffee and conversation. Thank you to Floyd Aune, Rich Peterson, Harlan Johnson and Kenny Aamold for spending time with us.
YUM!!! Did we ever have a great selection of pies for our Auxiliary’s Pie Day on Thursday! And the selection of silent auction items was impressive too! Thank you to everyone who brought a pie, silent auction item or assisted – and an even bigger thank you to everyone who came to support this worthwhile event.
On Monday after newscurrents our resident cooks made patriotic fresh fruit skewers with strawberries, blueberries, bananas and marshmallows. Oh so good and healthy too! There was Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning followed by Rhythm Band in the afternoon. We got in some retail therapy on Wednesday when the van went shopping at Dollar General. This is definitely a popular event. Earlier in the day we played Bingo and after shopping the residents got a chance to test their skills with crosswords. Thursday was pie day but we also had special music by the Buxton Parish VBS along with Bible study in the morning and down memory lane in the afternoon. It was a busy day! Friday brings Mass and Church in the morning followed by a Picnic dinner in the shelter, pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon. On Saturday there is bingo in the activity room at 2 p.m. and also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room. Kaffee Hus is open to all residents, families, guests and the public. There is coffee, cookies, donuts and pie available for everyone to enjoy. Everyone is welcome to stop by and have a treat! The Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “Moondance Alexander”. Moondance is a misfit at school and finds an escaped horse. She returns him to the owner and ends up getting a job at the stable. While riding one day, she discovers the horse has a talent for jumping and convinces the stable owner to coach them for a prestigious competition. Sounds like a good movie! Molly will be here on Sunday at 2 p.m. to play 5 square with everyone so get your thinking caps ready!
Next week brings newscurrents in the morning with Elaine and then we are making another visit to Rainbow Gardens. Sure hope the weather is as nice as last time! After Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday it’s the Auxiliary Birthday Party with Gran as the hostess. There is choir, crafts and bunco on Wednesday. We have reading on Thursday morning, then the ladies will get gussied up with pretty nails in the afternoon before we have ice cream cones on the patio. The American Legion/VFW will be here on Friday afternoon to play money bingo. Of course, there is still Mass and Church on Friday morning.
We would like to welcome on new Activity Assistant Andrea Knutson. Andrea resides in Kelso, ND. When you see Andrea in the hallway or activity room be sure to introduce yourself and say “Hi”.
Only one resident birthday next week – Dorothy Overmoen on July 24th. Sun Center resident Gladys Fugleberg has her birthday on July 25th. And there are only three staff birthdays next week (and two on the same day!) – Heather Champine and Megan Rabe on July 25th and Julie Winger on July 26th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
I am having minor hand surgery so there may or may not be a column next week depending on how I do typing with one hand! Until next time though … Remember this … to make a difference in someone’s life you don’t have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful or perfect -you just have to care …
