Greetings from “The Home” front …
What a great turnout we had for our Octoberfest Ice Cream Social last Sunday. Thank you to everyone who came to support Luther Memorial Home. Congratulations to Marilyn Koppang and Hannah Ust who were our quilt and gas card winners.
On Monday at Kitchen Cappers our resident cooks made the cutest frosted scarecrow cupcakes – they were so cute you almost didn’t want to eat one (NOT!). Tuesday was a very busy but fun day – there was sit and be fit in the morning and rhythm band in the afternoon. We also had a special “Meet and Greet” after Rhythm Band for Dr. Travis Waswick who is the new doctor at the Mayville Clinic. The residents enjoyed talking with and getting to know him better. Welcome to Mayville Dr. Waswick!!
Tuesday was also special because it was Boss’s Day. I would like to give a special shout out to our boss in the Activities Office – Lisa Nelson. Lisa is a kind and caring person who always has time to listen to any concern that comes up. Thank you, Lisa, for being such a great boss!
On Wednesday it was choir in the morning and then during crafts the residents made candy corn magnets! Pastor Dianne was here for Bible Study on Thursday morning and in the afternoon some of the residents went in the van to ShopKo. Later, we also played 5 square. Friday brought mass and church in the morning and pretty nails and happy ½ hour that afternoon. There is bingo on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the activity room and Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room on both Saturday and Sunday. Why not stop in to visit and enjoy some special treats and a cup of coffee – we would love to see you! The Saturday movie matinee is “Gone Fishing” – Joe and Gus are lifelong buddies who seem to encounter disaster wherever they go. They’re ecstatic when they find out they’ve won a fishing trip to Florida. They quickly embark on a road trip and you can only guess the trouble they encounter – it sounds like a great hilarious movie!!! Don’t miss it!
Next week Pam will be here with her guitar on Sunday for a Sing A-long at 2 p.m. On Monday it’s newscurrents, bunco, lotion in motion and bingo in the evening. We have Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and the Auxiliary Birthday Party in the afternoon. Mayville Lutheran is the hostess. There is Name That Tune Wednesday morning and then the Mayville State DECCA will be here to help the residents paint pumpkins. We have reading on Thursday morning and pretty nails and pin the nose on the pumpkin in the afternoon. Friday brings mass and church and Money Bingo with the American Legion/VWF in the afternoon.
October 7 to 13 was Health Care Food Service Week and I would like to acknowledge all the people that work in our kitchen (dietary) area. They are hardworking – need to be on the job bright and early – and cook 3 meals a day for over 100 people. It takes a special person to do all that! Best wishes to Danielle Carr, Laticia Clagg, Marc Eastman, Eric Eken, Jordan Eken, Kyle Eken, Pam Eken, Cale Hooper, Jeric Houdek, Susan Hoyt, Matt Karolus, Mikayla Koening, Stacy Nosbusch, Kenew-Kiew Oshkosh, Karina Perish, Ester Pleune, Katie Sayler, Alice Simengaard, Linda Strand, Sue Tastad, Terri Weixel and Dwight Winger.
Again, we have no resident birthdays next week nor any from Sun Center – but we do have three staff members celebrating – Carol Lande (October 24), Nina Gurian (Octrober 25) and Lee Brenna on October 26th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!
We were all saddened by the passing of resident Eleanor Wiegand. Eleanor has a sweet personality and enjoyed all of our activities from music to games and word search puzzles. She also enjoyed working with other residents on our big jigsaw puzzle in the library. Rest in Peace Eleanor – you will be missed.
Until next time … a thought for the week … you are your only limit …
