Greetings from “The Home” front …

A big thank you to everyone who came to support Luther Memorial Home and the LMH Auxiliary at our Hanging of the Greens last Sunday. The music by Illa Peterson was beautiful, there was lots of delicious baked goods for sale and the trees were awesome – everything to get us in the holiday spirit.

Resident Margaret Gunderson and her daughters were here on Monday to lead a card making craft project with our residents. The cards turned out so cute – everyone was pleased with their creation. Thanks again Margaret and family. Please come again soon! Tuesday morning, we had Sit & Be Fit and in the afternoon, we were treated to a wonderful Classical Music Concert by Noah (yes, only one name) who is a student at UND, majoring in music, aviation and language. His home is in Paris, France. The musical events are always so popular. Thanks, Noah, for sharing your talent with us. The Activity Dept took Christmas Photos of our residents on Wednesday morning. Each resident who had their picture taken in a Christmas setting will be able to give a photo to their friends and family. Mary Peterson and her quilting gang were here to bring back the Christmas Tree wall/door hangings that the residents made last week. The “gang” sewed and completed the projects at home and brought back finished wall hangings for the residents to admire, enjoy and keep. I already saw several of the quilted hangings in various rooms and doors. Pastor Dianne offered a Bible Study Thursday morning and then Marion Johnson and Myrna Lyng provided a Christmas Sing Along in the afternoon with Christmas goodies following. The piano, flute and singing really got us in the Christmas mood. There was mass and church on Friday morning and then to Celebrate MayPort Winterfest we had a Strull demonstration (and taste test!) in the dining room. The Community was invited to join us. It’s Card Bingo on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the activity room and Kaffe Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room. Our Saturday movie matinee is “Jingle all the Way”. This family comedy stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad as two rival fathers competing to find their sons a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas – unfortunately Turbo Man has been sold out for months and so the fun begins. Later on Saturday afternoon the Perry Lutheran Church carolers will be strolling the halls singing favorite Christmas carols.

It’s another busy time next week when we start out with a Food Committee Meeting and Newscurrents on Monday morning. We are going to decorate a Gingerbread House in the afternoon. There will also be card playing and bingo in the evening. Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit which we definitely need as the Holiday Cookie Sampler is in the afternoon at 2 p.m. Staff provide their favorite cookies for the residents to sample and enjoy. Needless to say, this is a popular December event. Dee VonRuden will be here to provide music. On Wednesday we have choir with Nancy in the morning and crafts with Molly in the afternoon. The Peter Boe 3rd Graders will be here Thursday afternoon to visit their “adopted” grandparents and then the Poly Wog music group performs at 4 p.m. in the chapel. There will be a Blue Christmas Service on Friday at 10:30 in the chapel and after dinner we will have pretty nails and happy ½ hour.

There are no resident birthdays next week but Sun Center resident Opal Pietron has her birthday on December 9th. Staff member Susan Cheatley has a birthday on December 8th and Caitlin Denton on December 9th. There are two staff birthdays on December 13th – Dean Nelson and Ashley Held. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.

Until next time … a thought for the week … your life is completely up to you …
