Gary N is all smiles while holding baby Canaan

Greetings from “the Home” front …

Can you believe the month of January is almost half over – where does the time go!  We have been busy here at LMH now that the residents are out of their rooms and enjoying activities again.  Monday there was newscurrents and reminiscing about penmanship class.  The residents played cards in the afternoon. Tuesday was our rummage sale – we had lots of great bargains – hope you were able to come and take advantage of them!  There was Sit & Be Fit Wednesday morning and Mary & her gang were here in the afternoon.  The residents worked on a quilting project with Mary’s group – we certainly appreciate that they are back again this year to spend time with us.  Later in the afternoon we had a rousing game of Table Hockey.  Nancy played for choir on Thursday morning and instead of our planned grandparent visit in the afternoon – we had a baby shower for CNA Rahni Smith and baby.  This shower was postposed in December due to the flu outbreak so it was nice to see Rahni & the baby  Canaan.  The residents always enjoy having babies visit and a chance to hold them.  There were lots of smiles everywhere!  Leonard & Betty Wahl are here Friday afternoon to play special music for us.  Of course, we have mass and church in the morning.  While Leonard & Betty are performing the activities staff will serve popcorn and the Bethany ladies will be serving special bread, yum. Saturday brings Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room and Reminisce in the activity room.  The Saturday movie matinee is Grumpy Old Men – this is one of my favorites starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau – what a fabulous pair who play off each other. This movie was a residents request.

Next Monday is Martin Luther King Jr Day and I am sure Elaine will have some insights about his life and work during Newscurrents in the morning.  We will be playing Cards & Board games in the afternoon, followed by Lotion in Motion.  Several people have asked “Just what is lotion in motion???” – it is an opportunity for our activity staff to visit residents who are not always able to get out of their rooms  as often as possible – we offer devotions and hand massages for them,  and they get to pick the fragrance. We will also have bingo in the evening.  Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit in the morning and rhythm band in the afternoon.  Hmmm there will be Snowman Races (Oh MY!!!) on Wednesday morning and Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon.  The residents requested deviled eggs in food committee meeting.  Molly will be here to talk about old time cold/flu remedies and show drug store items during Down Memory Lane in the afternoon.   On Thursday we have Bible Study in the morning and Name That Tune in the afternoon.  We will also discuss Why Is Mars Red during Men’s Club – hmmmmm, why IS Mars Red???  Friday brings church in the morning and pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon.

Speaking of Pretty Nails – a special thank you to Julie Mostad who donated nail supplies for our residents to use during pretty nails. Our residents enjoy getting their nails polished and “gussied up”.
We have four resident birthdays next week – Dorothy Heskin on January 13, Gerald Storebo (January 15) Linda Anderson and Ramona Chamberlain on January 18th.  Sun Center resident Marie Burud‘s birthday is January 15th.  Two staff members celebrate birthdays next week – Sarah Zapata on January 14 and Zoe Odell on January 17th.  Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Melinda Leland who passed away January 2nd.  Melinda enjoyed church, bible study, musical events and coffee time in the morning.  She was an avid knitter and made many dish cloths that she donated for sale not only here at LMH but to other organizations as well.  She also started initiated out Prayer Shawl Program.  Rest in Peace Melinda.

Until next time … a thought for the week  is the most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.
