Greetings from “The Home” front …
We started off October with lots of great activities here at LMH! Monday was International Coffee Day and we celebrated with a special flavored coffee bar! The residents enjoyed tasting the various flavors even though some stuck to that old Norwegian favorite – “Just BLACK”! We also had newscurrents and sensory in the morning. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band. Some of the residents also got together for cards in the afternoon. There was choir on Wednesday morning and in the afternoon our crafters made a fall picture with colorful leaves to hang on their door or put up in their room. Thursday was 50s Roll Back and we had special music by Chuck Fox. Wow – some of those 50s & 60s songs brought back special memories. Everyone had a great time dancing, clapping and toe tapping! After church on Friday there was pretty nails and happy ½ hour. Friday is also World Teacher Day and we would like to recognize the following residents who were teachers and helped to shape the lives of many students. They are: Donna Bakkum, LeRoy Breanna, Esther Bring, Gayle Brown, Laverne Burke, Fern Fugleberg, Evelyn Kennedy, Alice Stand and Kathy Thomas. Our Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies” – what a fun movie. It stars Doris Day and David Niven – how can you beat that cast of great stars! We also have bingo at 2 p.m. in the activity room and Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room.
The Aurdal Praise Band will be here on Sunday for a special musical presentation in the chapel at 2 p.m. Monday is Columbus Day and I am sure Elaine will have some interesting facts during Newscurrents. We will also be playing Bunco in the afternoon and Bingo in the evening. It’s Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday. On Wednesday we start with Name that Tune in the morning and Pumpkin Races in the afternoon. There is also resident council. Thursday will be a special day when our Peter Boe 3rd graders come for their lst visit with their “adopted” grandparents. This is a wonderful event both for the children and for our residents. The children come once a month to visit with our residents and they usually play a game or do an art project together. Many of the children do not have grandparents living near by and many of our residents do not have grandchildren near – so it is a win win situation for everyone when they can get together. On Friday there is mass, church, popcorn and pretty nails.
Mark your calendars; Luther Memorial Home Auxiliary will be hosting an Octoberfest Dessert Bar and Ice Cream Social Sunday October 14th from 2pm-3:30 pm with a free will offering. Music will be provided by the talented Lane Linseth who plays the accordion and the piano. There is a beautiful quilt and also a gas card that will be raffled off. Raffle tickets are still available at LMH receptionist desk or from any Auxiliary member. Tickets are only $1 each. Everyone is welcome. Hope to see you there.
We have one resident birthday next week – Gary Nickel on October 8th. Sun Center resident Bea Neset has her birthday October 12th. There are two staff members with birthdays next week Sue Tastad October 11 and Courtney Priddie on October 12. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.
Congratulations to our social worker Olivia Toft who is now Olivia Becker with her marriage to Gavin Becker on September 22. Best wishes to both of you and may you enjoy many happy years together.
Until next time … a thought for the week … autumn is a season that is followed immediately by looking forward to spring …
