Greetings from “The Home” front …
WOW!!! What a fabulous time everyone had at our Car Show on Monday! The weather was perfect and we could not have asked for a better turnout. We had picnic tables set up in the back parking lot and served pie and ice cream while being surrounded by cars from the 1920s, 50s,60s 70s and later. The residents got a big kick out of walking around and reminiscing about these beauties. A special BIG THANK YOU to Don Moen, Rick Nepstad, Richard Moen, Jeff Miller, Steve Volla, Randy Kyllo, Steve Hillstad, Brandon and Blake Bjerke, Laurice VanZee, and Molly Lenaberg for sharing their “wheels” with us.
We settled down on Tuesday with Sit & Be Fit in the morning followed by Rhythm Band in the afternoon. The crafty ladies (and men) made special bird seed ornaments during crafts on Wednesday afternoon. Later, the ornaments will be hung in trees around the courtyard to attract our feathered friends. Many of our residents enjoy sitting out on the patio and watching the birds. After crafts, the Men’s Club played blackjack. There was Bible Study on Thursday morning and then we took the van to ShopKo in the afternoon for some retail therapy. The residents enjoy shopping and seeing what is new in the store. We also had pretty nails and bingo in the evening. There is church on Friday morning and Bingo with the VFW in the afternoon. A special thank you to Dorothy Grage who played the piano for us at church last Friday. We appreciate your sharing your talent with us. With Summerfest upon us the residents went out in the front yard to watch the parade go by – we appreciate the Summerfest committee for arranging the parade to go right by our doorstep! We will also be playing Wheel of Fortune in the Activity Room at 2 p.m. Our Saturday Movie Matinee at 3 p.m. is “Railroad Journeys”. This video features railroad trips across America where the narrator visits historic sites, famous landmarks and tries local cuisine. What a great way to travel on an armchair vacation!
We also had a special event on Thursday when we recognized our CNAs during National CNA Appreciation Week –day shift CNAs were treated to breakfast in the picnic shelter and evening shift had a special supper prepared just for them! Thank you to all of our CNAs for the fabulous job you do taking care of our residents.
Next week we have newscurrents on Monday morning followed by a sightseeing trip around Portland/Mayville in the afternoon. We are also having a special Farewell Party for Monsignor Pilon from Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Monsignor has delivered mass here at LMH for several years and is now retiring. We wish him all the best! On Tuesday it’s Sit & Be Fit in the morning and our Auxiliary Birthday Party in the afternoon. Elm River is our hostess. Wednesday brings choir and Kitchen Cappers. We will also play Bunco later on. Leonard & Betty Wahl will be here on Thursday for special music in the dining room at 2 p.m. After church on Friday we are having a picnic in the shelter. Brats, baked beans, pasta salad and watermelon are on the menu. YUM! The ladies will get gussied up with pretty nails later on and then it’s time for Happy ½ hour.
Another reminder – there is still time to purchase your tickets to the Garden Tour which is scheduled for Thursday June 28th from 5-7 p.m. There will be 7 gardens/homes on the tour this year. Tickets can be purchased from Auxiliary members, at the LM H receptionist desk or at any other gardens on the day of the tour.
We have two resident birthdays next week – Irene Lidstrom (June 26) and Dorothy Halvorson (June 30). And only two staff birthdays – Deb Sletten on June 24 and Cale Hooper on June 30th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!
Until next time … a thought for the week… someday is not a day in the week …
