Greetings from “The Home” front …
What a wonderful Veteran’s Day program we had this year! Special thank you to the VFW/American Legion and their Auxiliary for their help, to Renee Torgerson for making and donating the beautiful cakes served after the event, Elaine Klath for the music, Rebekka Hodgeson, Traill County Veterans Service Officer, Larry Young, our guest speaker, and to all the other people involved in making this such a memorable day.
Ron Jacobson of Jacobson Studio came and set up his display of Veteran’s photos to coincide with our program. What a marvelous study of faces that show what it means to be a veteran and to have served our country. WDAY was also here to film the program and interview some of the vets. We even made the 6 p.m. news!!!!
We had Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday with Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Nancy played for Name That Tune on Wednesday morning and Mary and her Quilting Gang came later on to start a special project with our crafters. There was Bible Study on Thursday morning and in the afternoon the residents made Thankful Posters which will be displayed in the activity room and hallway. So many of the residents are thankful for their friends and family. Others were thankful for LMH as a good place to live. Afterward we played a rousing game of pin the feather on the turkey!! It was church on Friday morning followed by pretty nails and happy ½ hour. We have Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 on Saturday plus Bingo at 2 p.m. in the activity room. Our Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “Real Sanctuary”. A romantic musical tapestry combining the eternal ballet of the seas with the music of Hilary Stagg.
Molly will be here on Sunday for Down Memory Lane. She usually brings some antiques (or junk!!) to reminisce about. There is newswcurrents on Monday morning followed by Bunco and cards in the afternoon. The SOS students from Mayville State come on Tuesday to play games with our residents plus we have Sit & Be Fit in the morning. Pastor Dianne will lead a Thanksgiving Church Service on Wednesday morning and we are having a baby shower for Nona Gurgian and baby Juliette in the afternoon. The residents always look forward to meeting and holding these new babies. On Thanksgiving Day LMH is usually busy with visits from family and friends. The kitchen crew will be serving a traditional turkey dinner and, in the afternoon, we will be playing Thanksgiving Wheel of Fortune. There is also bingo in the evening. Friday brings Mass in the morning, followed by trivia. We have a special musical event in the afternoon when Dan Lee comes to perform for us. He always puts on a good show.
We have two resident birthdays next week – Johnny Olson on November 19th and Agnes Basol on November 20th. Sun Center Resident Alan Holt celebrates his birthday on November 18th. We also have three staff members with birthdays next week – Amanda Landa and Jessica Serr both on November 20 and Bretta Harris on November 22nd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
We were saddened by the loss of two residents these past two weeks. Beverly Basol died November 6th. She enjoyed having coffee time with her friends in the morning, reading the paper and socializing at Kaffee Hus on the weekends. Mary Lynne passed away November 7th. Mary enjoyed listening to music, receiving hand massages and visits from family. Rest in Peace Bev and Mary.
Until next time … a thought for the week …. Consider the postage stamp – its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing until it gets there …
