Greetings from “The Home” front
I hope all of you had a safe and blessed Thanksgiving. We were busy at LMH with lots of visitors – good food, good friends, good family. Some of the residents played Thanksgiving Wheel of Fortune in the afternoon – alas, Pat and Vanna were busy elsewhere but we still had fun without them.
Molly was here on Sunday to reminisce with the residents about Thanksgiving. She brought vintage cookbooks and shared those old time tried and true recipes. Residents talked about some humorous events that happened with their Thanksgiving meals (oven blowing up in the middle of cooking the turkey!) and also their favorite recipes. Monday brought newscurrents in the morning and a rousing game of Bunco in the afternoon. Other residents got together to play cards before supper and there was bingo in the evening. We had Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning – getting ready for all that turkey and trimmings on Thursday. The SOS students from Mayville State were here to play games with the residents in the afternoon. SOS stands for Seminar for Success and is a semester long class at the college – we certainly appreciate their volunteering here at LMH. Pastor Dianne led a Thanksgiving Church Service on Wednesday morning. We had a baby shower for CNA Nina Gurian and baby Juliette. What a cutie. The residents sure enjoyed meeting and greeting her with smiles and hugs. As mentioned above, there was Thanksgiving Wheel of Fortune on Thursday afternoon and then Bingo in the evening. We had Mass on Friday but no church so the residents played trivia instead. Dan Lee was here in the afternoon to provide special music. He sure puts on a great toe tapping show. Thanks Dan – hope you can come back again soon! We have Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 on Saturday in the dining room and the Price is Right at 2 p.m. in the activity room. Our Saturday movie matinee is that classic favorite “White Christmas”.
Next week we start off with Crosswords on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the activity room. There is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30. Monday we begin our Christmas decorating! We will share newscurrents in the morning and in the afternoon we have a farewell party for Joel Piatz from 2-3 pm in the dining room . Joel is a CNA that has worked at Luther Memorial Home since 2009. Good luck Joel on your new adventure. It’s good that we have Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning because it’s the Auxiliary Birthday Party in the afternoon. Stordahl Lutheran Church is the hostess. Mary and her quilting gang will be here on Wednesday – it looks like they will be working on a fabulous Christmas tree mini wall hanging that residents can put on their door or in their room. We continue our Christmas decorating. There is reminisce on Thursday morning and pretty nails in the afternoon. After mass and church on Friday, the American Legion and VFW will be here to play “money” bingo with our residents. This is always a popular event.
Sunday December 2nd is our Hanging of the Greens event which kicks off the holiday season. We will have special music by Ila Peterson, plus bake sale. This is a chance to get those holiday goodies without any work. Hope to see you there!!!
We have two staff birthdays next week – Donna Dick on November 27th and Tony Bushy on November 28th. Happy Birthday and enjoy your special day!!!
Until next time … a thought for the week … Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together …
