Gerald and Ardis Storebo touring the Mayville Museum

Greetings from The Home front ...

It has been a busy week for us here at LMH – Sunday, several of our residents went to the horse races – not with real horses – but with dice!  It is a fun game, and by rolling the dice, residents can move their horse forward to the finish line.  Of course there is lots of rooting for their favorite horse!
Monday the van took several residents to the Goose River Heritage Museum in Mayville – they had a chance to see several of the exhibits and to reminisce.  Of special interest to the men was the farm equipment and military uniform display.  The ladies like the schoolhouse, kitchen  and vintage dresses.  Thank you to our volunteers who helped push wheelchairs and walk with residents so that everyone got a chance to see the exhibits.  Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  The Ebenezer Vacation Bible School put on a wonderful performance Wednesday afternoon.  They come every year to entertain our residents and the chapel is always full.  We also had Name That Tune in the morning and a toss game in the afternoon.  Leonard and Betty Wahl were here to entertain during Happy Half Hour on Thursday.  Before that on Thursday morning there was Men’s Bible Study.  There is church, pretty nails and Bunco on Friday.  We have Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 on both Saturday and Sunday and also real bingo at 2 p.m. in the activity room on Saturday.  The Saturday movie matinee is a video of the Katie Humble School of Dance recital.  You will see several of our young local talent performing.

On Sunday, Our Lady of Peace Catholic church will be providing music I the chapel at 2 p.m.  Monday is National Rootbeer Float Day and guess what we will be serving!  There is also newscurrents in the morning and lotion in motion in the afternoon plus bingo in the evening.  We have Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  Wednesday bring choir with Nancy, followed by crafts with Molly in the afternoon.  The residents will be making a photo greeting card.  The residents will be going shopping at ShopKo on Thursday.  We have a picnic in the shelter planned for Friday dinner.  Of course, there is church in the morning and after the picnic there is popcorn and pretty nails.

It’s time to mark your calendars for our 18th annual FAMILY PICNIC which will be held on August 22 from 5-7 outdoors and also in the picnic shelter, invitations are in the mail.  We will have food and special music by Larry Charon.  (He’s a real crowd pleaser!).  Please RSVP to the Activities Dept. (786-3401) by August 15th.  This is a free event and a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your loved one.  We hope to see you there.

We have four resident birthdays next week – Esther Slaughter on August 4th, Stan (“The Man”) Dakken on August 6th and Harriet Ulland and Margaret Nelson on August 7th.  There are also several staff members with upcoming birthdays – Nicole Sylskar (August 4), Julie Johnson (August 5), Lindsey Fenske-Goodman (August 6), Dawn Carter (August 8), Jennifer Carr, Marylou Jacobson and Sylvia Straight all on August 9th, and Jean Holter on August 10th.  Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … a thought for the week … Life is full of happiness and tears so be strong and have faith.
