Greetings from “The Home” front
It’s great to be back from vacation and while I was gone the residents enjoyed several fun activities. Pam was here on Sunday to play her guitar and sing. On Monday there was newscurrents in the morning and then Bunco in the afternoon. Later on, we had Lotion in Motion and then bingo in the evening. Mayville Lutheran was the hostess for our Auxiliary Birthday Party on Tuesday afternoon. Dennis Peterson, Mike Bakkum and Tom Moe provided the entertainment and the ladies served delicious cinnamon bread with cheese whiz and a chocolate candy. Also, a special thank you to Jackie Kuhle from Countryside Creations who, each month, provides fresh flowers for every resident who has a birthday at our monthly birthday party. Thanks Jackie! On Wednesday, after Name That Tune, the DECA students from MSU came to help our residents paint pumpkins. The residents had a great time and the pumpkins turned out so cute. Later on, we played a Halloween word association game. There was a movie in the evening. We had reading on Thursday morning followed by pretty nails and Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin. Friday brings mass and church, then the American Legion/VFW will be here to play money bingo. This is always a popular activity and the residents look forward to the last Friday of the month. There is Down Memory Lane on Saturday afternoon. Our 2 p.m. movie matinee is “Red Skelton” – he was such a funny man and this should be a fun movie to see. There is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room.
Next week we start with Halloween Wheel of Fortune on Sunday afternoon. There is newscurrents on Monday morning and Halloween trivia later in the afternoon. Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band. Wednesday it’s Halloween and are we ever going to celebrate!!! In the morning we will frost cookies to be used at our party in the afternoon. The Hayshakers will be here to play for our Halloween Bash at 2 p.m. Thursday – (November 1st already !!!) brings Bible Study with Pastor Dianne in the morning and then Leonard & Betty Wahl will be here to provide musical entertainment in the afternoon. Some of the residents will also get together to play cards. On Friday we have mass and church in the morning followed by pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon.
We have 2 resident birthdays to finish off the month of October - Wes Laughery on October 27th and Jim LeClair on October 30. Sun Center resident Barb Gilbertson has an October 27th birthday. Only two staff birthdays next week – Leslie Zapata on October 31st and Minih Oshkosh on November 2nd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to the friends and family of Sharon Aamold who passed away October 18th. Sharon was with us for a few months and had the most upbeat attitude I have ever seen. She was fun to visit with because I always left feeling better than when I came into her room. She enjoyed visiting with family and staff, listening to devotions and playing on her iPad. Rest in Peace Sharon – you will be missed.
Until next week – a thought for the week …. Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb, but how well you bounce back …
