Greetings from "The Home" front...
It has been a busy week here at LMH – in addition to our indoor and outdoor visits, our residents have been coming to the activity room to enjoy various games and events. Of course, we still have to maintain a social distance, wear masks and sanitize our hands but it is a start. The staff were also tested for Covid-19 again on Wednesday. I don’t have those results as the Tribune deadline is before the results will be back but will let you know next week.
Monday started out with Sit & Be Fit and then a van trip around Portland/Mayville. On previous trips it was fun to see the children playing in their yards or riding their bicycles out in the sunny weather. Many of the children stopped to wave at the van as it went by. The residents really enjoyed seeing the children. On Tuesday there was newscurrents and rhythm band. Wednesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and then the crafty crafters (we’re not just crafty ladies anymore as some men have joined our crafting fun) – the crafting group made a cow greeting card “Cow’s it going”. There was a special program on the history of Cool Whip Thursday morning. Did you know that Cool Whip is still being made in the same facility in Avon NY that it was when developed in 1966? There are 200 million tubs sold every year and that there are 10 different types of cool whip and it is also available in a spray can (who knew???). The ladies also got their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. After Mass and Church and dinner on Friday, the residents were treated to Root Beer Floats. It was Sit & Be Fit on Saturday morning, followed by bingo and a Saturday movie matinee.
Next week we have Sit & Be Fit and Junk Drawer Detective on Monday. Newscurrents and All the Things I didn’t know About North Dakota on Tuesday. After Sit & Be Fit on Wednesday, Tim Mosser will present a special outdoor concert. Tim plays a wide variety of music, he sent a play list so residents could request what music he would like to listen to. Pray for good weather for out outdoor concert! We are looking forward to this special event. Pastor Deb will be here for Bible Study on Thursday and there is Pretty Nails in the afternoon. There is mass and church on Friday followed by Happy ½ hour.
Resident Robert Robinson was the winner of our Progressive Bingo game. It took awhile for a winner but we finally got one! Every morning we randomly pick two numbers and the residents and staff check their bingo card to see if they have bingo. This time it took over 10 days to get a winner!
A special thank you goes out to Camille Kainz who brought several afghans for our residents to use and enjoy. A colorful afghan always makes the bed look so cheery and will be very useful this winter. Thanks again Camille.
We have 5 birthdays finishing out the month of August. Resident Carol Kost on August 28th. Sun Center resident LaVonne Christianson on August 27th and 3 staff members Joan Holden on August 29, Terri Holm and Julianna Barker on August 31.
One resident has a September birthday next week - Dale Wamstad on September 4th. But there are three Sun Center residents celebrating this first week of September – Ardis Callahan (Sept 1) and Ken Eken and Dave Anderson on September 4th. Staff member Rachel Balstad has her birthday on September 2nd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … Until you make peace with who you are, you’ll never be content with what you have … Stay Safe – Wear a Mask – Make it a Great Week
