Happy Social Worker Month Sam Trosen and Kayla Coronato. We at Luther Memorial Home appreciate all you do for our residents! We are blessed to have you on our team!

Greetings from "The Home" front...

What a pleasant surprise when Gary Kaldor came with the men of Ebenezer Church to sing and play his guitar with them. The group sang several old-time gospel favorites and the residents enjoyed every single one of them. We all hope you will come back soon!

March is National Social Worker Month and we salute our two social workers Samantha Trosen and Kayla Coronato and also Tracy McGillis who had filled in when was Sam was on maternity leave. The social workers do a fantastic job as liaison with the residents, resident families and staff. Thank you, Sam, Kayla and Tracy, for doing such a great job.

Denise Vaagene brought a beautiful bulb garden planter to work last week (Thanks to Countryside Creations) and it has now started to bloom. The residents and staff enjoyed this bit of Spring with wonderful tulips, narcissus and hyacinth – everyone came to the activity room to enjoy the flowers and hope that Spring will soon be here.

There was newscurrents Monday morning. In the afternoon Andrea helped the residents write limericks and poems during our Creative Writing activity. There were lots of giggles as they put together stories and rhymes. There were also tabletop games and bingo in the evening. We had Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday – lots of clapping and toe tapping. Wednesday brought Name That Tune and Bunco along with shopping and visitations. There was a Lenten Service at 6:30 in the chapel led by Pastor Peter Schmidt from Mayville Lutheran Church. Elaine read short stories to the residents on Thursday and then the Peter Boe 3rd graders came for their monthly visit to their “adopted” grandparents. We also had a resident council meeting later in the day and bingo in the evening. After Mass and Church on Friday the residents enjoyed Shamrock Milkshakes. Several of the ladies also got their nails done just in time for the weekend. There is bingo on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the activity room and Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room. What do you think of those yummy new treats we have been having – the brownies were exceptionally good this past Saturday! Hope you got a chance to try them!

On Sunday afternoon, in addition to Kaffee Hus, there is Wheel of Fortune in the activity room at 2 p.m. Monday brings newscurrents in the morning and a St Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt in the afternoon plus table top games and bingo in the evening. We have a special St Patrick’s Day musical treat on Tuesday when Joe Schmidt comes to sing and play. He is a real favorite of our residents and he puts on a great performance. There is choir on Wednesday and then crafts in the afternoon. We will also have a Lenten Service at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel – everyone is welcome. Thursday brings Bible Study with Pastor Deb in the morning and Penny Ante in the afternoon plus bingo in the evening. The residents will also have a chance to work on a spring themed worksheet of matching words and word finds. On Friday its mass, church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour.

We have two resident birthdays next week –Chris Larson’s is on March 19th. Sun Center resident Bob Verwest celebrates his birthday on March 18th and four staff members will also be celebrating theirs – Meagan Karolus (March 16), Skyler Straight (March 19), Chandra Campbell and Tracey Beckman on March 20th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Our sympathy to the friends and family of Gene Kjos who passed away March 2nd. Gene enjoyed listening to music, reading the morning paper and visiting with family. Rest in Peace Gene – you will be missed.

Until next time … a thought for the week … There will always be someone who doesn’t see your worth – don’t let it be you …
