Greets from "The Home" front...
It’s beginning to look like Christmas throughout LMH – the activity staff have been busy putting up trees and decorations to dress up the halls, plus the staff have taken it upon themselves to decorate the resident doors. We are hosting a Deck the Door contest; the winning wing gets a pizza party. Usually this is something we encourage families to do with their loved one but because of COVID-19 this year it is not possible. The hallways look so festive and when we give wheelchair rides it is fun to go down the halls and see all the various decorations. Thanks to all of our staff for doing such a great job!
Congratulations to Emma Thykeson who won our progressive Bingo game this week. It took a couple of weeks to get a winner but we finally did! We draw two number every morning until we have a winner – the residents keep their bingo cards in their rooms and check them every day.
Our Christmas Tree of Lights is all aglow in the lobby. On it are angels with the names of “Angels” who have donated money in honor of, in memory of or as a greeting to a resident. It is not too late to have your name added to the contributors – a Blue ornament is $5.00; red is $10.00; Green is $20.00; Silver is $50.00 and Gold is $100. Donation forms are available at the receptionist desk or you can mail your check to Tree of Lights Dedication 750 Main Street East Mayville 58257. Be sure to include the name of the person you wish to acknowledge. We’d love to add your name to our tree.
WE have a very nice Pearl Harbor Remembrance on Monday. There was also Sit & Be Fit and a Resident Council meeting – all via our Channel 98. Andrea was here for Newscurrents on Tuesday morning and Nancy led a Christmas Sing a long in the afternoon. Wednesday was my favorite day because we had a lefse demonstration and then took the cart around to all the rooms so the residents could enjoy this Norwegian favorite. Pastor Deb lead Bible Study on Thursday morning while the ladies got their nails done in the afternoon. Pastor Deb led a very special Church Service on Friday. Since we were not able to hold our annual “Blue Christmas” this year at which time we honor and remember the residents who have passed away December 2019 thru November 2020, Pastor Deb did a special remembrance service and read their names. We would like to remember the following peoples: Linda Anderson, Yvonne Bakken, Dale Bakkum, Fyrne Berthold, Eugene Boeddeker, Gloria Boeddeker, Hazel Bird, Gayle Brown, George Brustad, Laverne Burke, Jean Cameron ,Nora Ann Carter, Curtis Dakken, Emily Elliott, Dennis Enger, Gerald Evenstad, Norman Grindeland, Margaret Gunderson, Ivy Harstad, Lawrence Hart, Chester Hedstrom, Delores Holden, Betty Holkesvig, Vivian Kent, Gene Kjos, Wesley Laughery, Deanna Marks, Margaret Nelson, Hartvick Olson, Carol Peltier, Mary Lou Roller, Fern Fugleberg Rotto, Ronald Semmens, Alice Strand, Gregor Useldinger Jr, Dan Walden and Sun Center residents; Frances Braaten, Jean Brustad, and Patricia Frost. Friday afternoon brought Happy ½ Hour. On Saturday it is Sit & Be Fit and Hallway Santa Races. Oh, I hope Santa doesn’t get so tired that he won’t be able to deliver presents later this month.
Next week Chichi will lead hallway Karaoke on Sunday afternoon. There is sit & Be Fit on Monday. Later, the residents will write letters to their Peter Boe 3rd grade pen pals. It’s Newscurrents on Tuesday followed by Christmas Name That Tune in the afternoon. I just LOVE Wednesdays because we have special treats – next week is our annual Cookie Sampler. The staff bake cookies and bring them to LMH for the residents to sample. It won’t be quite the same this year (with our COVID-19 restrictions) but I’m sure there will be plenty of cookies for everyone to enjoy. Pastor Deb is back for Bible Study on Thursday and then it’s pretty nails in the afternoon. Friday brings mass and church plus hallway Christmas bingo.
There are no resident birthdays again this week – but there will be lots of celebrating in Sun Center as three residents there all have birthdays on the same day – December 14th. Wilma Nelson, Eleanor Grinde and Ordell Olstad are the birthday celebrities. There are two staff birthdays – Francisco Smukalla on December 16th and Laura Miller on December 18th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … let us not love only with words but with actions and deeds … Stay safe – Wear a mask – Social distance and Wash your hands.
