LMH Residents celebrating New Year’s Eve at our party in the dining room.

Greetings from “The Home” front

By Molly Lenaburg

We have been doing some fun stuff here at LMH while the rest of the community is still “digging out” from all that snow we got last week! And how about those cold temps!!! Wowsie!!

First of all – a BIG THANK YOU goes out to the staff members that managed to get here during the blizzard to tend to our residents – some staff stayed overnight, others dug out vehicles in order to make it on time and still others worked extra shifts. Thank you again for all you do to keep our residents safe and comfortable.

We started out Monday with a new activity entitled our Star of the Month – we learn a few interesting facts about a famous star. This month it was Ray Bolger who was born January 10, 1904. He was most famous as the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz although he was not originally cast in that part. The producers wanted him to play the Tin Man but Ray begged for the part of the Scarecrow and finally got it. Ray died January 15, 1987. Later in the day there was Bunco and a Resident Council meeting. We also had Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents in the morning and music with Lysa in the afternoon. We also played Winter Scattegories. Lysa led Choir on Wednesday and Molly and the crafters made cute snowmen as room decorations. Staff also went shopping for the residents in the afternoon. Pastor Deb was back for Bible Study on Thursday and the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails. We also had Reminisce where the ladies remembered Slumber Parties. I think this was a “Girl Thing” as I don’t recall guys having slumber parties – maybe they called them “sleep overs” instead. Everyone tried their luck at Bingo in the evening. On Friday there was Church in the morning followed by TGIF Happy ½ hour in the afternoon. On Saturday there is Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and a movie.

Molly will do Down Memory Lane on Sunday afternoon. Who knows what treasures lurk in her garage that she will bring to show and talk about? Monday (January 17) we celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday. In the morning we will learn some history behind this famous man, play a word game called KING categories followed by Secret Quotes and Bingo. Certainly a busy and fun filled day. Tuesday brings Newscurrents followed by Knock Your Socks Off trivia and Who Am I. Staff will read about a famous person and residents have to guess who they are. There is Name That Tune on Wednesday and crafts in the afternoon. We are hoping Pat & Vanna will be here for Wheel of Fortune on Thursday but all this snow might scare them away – we’ll have to wait and see. It will still be fun. The ladies get their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon, followed by Bunco and Bingo. After Church on Friday, we are having an Ice Cream Festival with various flavors of ice cream, yummy toppings, nuts and cherries. I can hardly wait!!!

There are no resident birthdays next week but we certainly have several staff members celebrating –Andrea Knudson (January 16), Tariqa Alexander (January 17), our Administrator Brett Ulrich (January 20), Rikka Edwardson and Cindy Truhlicka also on January 20. Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Laurel Jorgensen who passed away January 9th. Laurel was well known in the community and while here at LMH enjoyed watching sports on TV, hearing devotions and observing the “goings on” in the hallway with staff and other residents. Rest in Peace, Laurel – you will be missed.

Until next time … a thought for the week… Life is not about expecting, hoping and wishing; it’s about doing, being and becoming … Make it a great week Everyone!!!
