Greetings from “The Home” front …
We had a fun Sunday playing 5 square in the activity room! On Monday there was New Year’s Fill in the Blank game in the morning and then we got busy in the afternoon taking down our Christmas decorations. Time to look forward to a new year! There was Bingo in the evening. Tuesday started out with Newscurrents on the morning agenda followed by Jeopardy and January Trivia. Lysa led Name That Tune on Wednesday and then during Down Memory Lane Molly showed a collection of ladies’ handkerchiefs and the interesting history about them. Did you know that young ladies out on a date during the 1950s carried small change wrapped in their hankies so they could make a phone call for someone to come and get them in case the date wasn’t going as planned? Staff also went shopping for the residents at Dollar General and Miller’s. What’s New in 2022 was the morning activity on Thursday followed by Pretty Nails and Arm Chair Detective. There was also Bingo in the evening. We had Church on Friday morning, and in the afternoon, to celebrate Elvis Presley’s 88th birthday we remembered some of his hit songs. There is Sit & Be Fit on Saturday, followed by Bingo and then Animal ABC’s.
We will play Wheel of Fortune on Sunday afternoon. There is Star of the Month activity – hmm, sounds interesting on Monday morning followed by Bunco and a Resident Council meeting. There is also Bingo in the evening. Looks like a busy and fun filled day! We have Newscurrents Tuesday morning and then a special event when Steve Worner stops by to perform in the dining room. We always look forward to having Steve come and play for us – he puts on a great toe tapping show. The residents will be getting in tune for Choir on Wednesday morning, followed by Crafts in the afternoon. Looks like the residents will be making a snowman door/room decoration. Pastor Deb is back for Bible Study on Thursday, followed by Pretty Nails and Reminisce plus Bingo in the evening. We have Church on Friday and Happy ½ hour in the afternoon. A special thank you to Chris Larson who did a great job leading church service while Pastor Deb was on vacation.
We had a wonderful donation from Jodi Haug of Mound, MN -- a HUGE case of Whitman Chocolate Samplers (remember sticking your finger in those chocolates to find just the right one???). There are enough boxes for every resident to enjoy a sampler! What a special treat and a big THANK YOU from everyone here at LMH.
Staff at LMH are preparing to support the local Food Pantry by having a canned food drive. We have designated January 3 – 16th as a time for people to bring canned food to the lobby plus we will be accepting monetary donations. I will keep you posted as to the success of this worthwhile event.
The activity department welcomed two new on call staff members – Katherine Bennett and Dakota Malwitz. They have spent the last few days working with us and “learning the ropes”. We look forward to having them on board with us.
There are two resident birthdays next week – Jane Ihry on January 8th and Kathryn Vinje on January 13th. We also have several staff members with birthdays coming up – Kim Cantore (Jan 4th), Tasha Caswell (Jan 7th), Katherine Pruneda (Jan 9th), Inez Olson (Jan 11), Katie Sayler and Ericka Tinkham both on Jan 12, and Sarah Zapata on January 16th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time… a thought for the week from Anne Frank… What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t even happened yet…
