Greetings from “The Home” front …

We were wringing out after last Monday’s downpour but that didn’t stop us from having a fun day – after Coffee Time in the morning, the residents Reminisced and learned some Fun Facts about Memorial Day. Walter Rindy told us about being on a ship next to the USS Missouri when the peace treaty was signed in 1945. He also talked about being on the first Honor Flight to Washington, DC. Alexa played “Taps” for us and Molly read the poem “In Flander’s Field”. We played 5 Square in the afternoon and there was Bingo later on. Tuesday brought Newscurrents in the morning and a Memorial Day Program in the afternoon. Thank you to members of our local American Legion for joining our program! On Wednesday, Father Bob led a morning Catholic Mass then Lysa played piano for Choir in the activity room. We had Bunco in the afternoon and Molly went shopping for the residents after that. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday morning and the ladies got their nails done during Pretty Nails in the afternoon. We also had June Trivia and played Bingo in the evening. After Church on Friday, we have a special treat when Tim Mosser stops by to play and perform for us. He always puts on a great performance. There is Sit and Be Fit on Saturday followed by Bingo and then Painting.

Next week we start out with 5 Square on Sunday. Monday brings several new activities – Yes, I Have Game at 10:30 – that sounds interesting. Then at 2 p.m. we will learn about US National Parks. There is Rainbow Detective later on and Bingo in the evening. After Newscurrents on Tuesday we are planning a Sightseeing Van Trip (weather permitting) around Portland/Mayville to see the sights and check out the crops. There is Mass on Wednesday and then Lysa will play for Name That Tune in the morning followed by Crafts in the afternoon. Plus, shopping for the residents. We have a very special event on Thursday June 9th when we honor our staff that were nominated for Caregiver of the Year plus recognizing several staff members for their years of service. There will be Bingo in the evening. On Friday we have Church and Pretty Nails.

The following staff members will be honored for years of service: 10 Years – Jordan Eken, Kyle Eken and Mary Turpin. 15 Years – Mitch Krueger and Susan Kellett. 20 Years -Sharon Domier. 25 years – Katie Sayler and Monica Ellingson. 30 years – Laurice VanZee. 35 years – Shelly Aune and 40 years – Becky Moen. Congratulations to all of you!

A special thank you to the family of Roger & Florence Syvertsen who donated several adult coloring books, word search books, and other fun activity books to our activity room for our residents to enjoy.

We were saddened by the passing of Darrell Stoebner on May 23. You may have seen Darrell tootling around Mayville on his scooter. He also enjoyed watching TV, joking with staff, and visiting with family. Rest in Peace Darrell.

We have one resident birthday next week- Happy Birthday Mike Strand – enjoy your special day! There were no staff birthdays.

Until next time … a thought for the week … The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty …Make it a great week!
