Greetings from “The Home” front …

What a beautiful day we had on Monday – the first day of Spring!  Our residents enjoyed the Spring Fling with music by The Hayshakers.  The dining room was filled to capacity with everyone tapping their feet and singing along.  Special thank you to Elroy Lindaas and the rest of his crew for entertaining us in such Spring Fling style.

Tuesday brought Rhythm Band and visitations.  We had Sit & Be Fit Wednesday morning.  Mary Peterson and her gang of quilters were here in the afternoon.  The residents helped pick out small 2x2 squares of fabric and put them into 10 & 12 piece blocks to form a square.  Eventually these squares will be sewn together to go into a quilt.  Everyone is anxious to see how it will all come together.      The Men’s Club also met in the afternoon to talk about hunting and play trivia.  There was choir in the morning on Thursday and we also played table hockey in the afternoon.  Elaine continued her reading of “The Story” after that.   Friday brought church and our Farewell Party for Pastor Nathan.  It was a bittersweet party as we will all miss him but wish him the best as he leads a new church in Carrollton Texas.  Saturday there is Bingo, Kaffee Hus and our Saturday Movie Matinee.  This week it is a video of the Trail Blazers Concert.  They always put on a wonderful show and it’s great to have a video of their performance.

Next week we have Kitchen Cappers on Monday.  The residents will be making Fresh Fruit Pizza – that is always a favorite!  Tuesday it is the Auxiliary Birthday Party with Immanuel Lutheran as the host.  Wednesday there is Reminisce in the morning – we will be talking about Barn and Barnyard Basketball.  The Crafty Ladies (and Men) get together in the afternoon to make an Easter card.

We will also play my favorite game – Bunco!  Get that bell ready!  Thursday brings a sing along with Pam and we will be going Wii Bowling in the afternoon.  We also will continue reading “The Story.”  Friday is the last day of the month – can it be??? –and that brings church in the morning and the American Legion/VFW here to play “real” bingo with us.

We finish out the month of March with several birthdays.  Residents Cathy Howeger celebrates on the 27th and Lucille Weil on the 28th.  Sun Center resident Junice Berg has a birthday March 25th and Sandra Martz on the 26th.  Staff member Elaine Aune’s birthday is March 27th and Erica Baldock’s is March 29th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.

I am happy to say that we have not had any deaths this past week.  Residents become like family members and their passing is felt by all of us here at LMH.

Until next time… a thought for the week…  Life isn’t about getting and having – it is about giving and being.
