Greetings from “The Home Front”
What a beautiful day we had to go to Rainbow Gardens on Monday – the slight breeze made it ever so pleasant to view the flowers and surroundings. Thank you to volunteers Sandy Braaten, Ida Paulson, Thelma Eide and Janice Erickson for helping to push wheelchairs so that all our residents could enjoy the gardens.
We had a great musical concert last Sunday when Vicki Heiler came to play keyboard and sing. She played several well-known songs and interacted with the residents seeking requests for favorite melodies. We hope to have her back real soon!
Tuesday was sit and be fit in the morning and rhythm band in the afternoon. We had our rummage sale on Wednesday and in the afternoon the Ebenezer Vacation Bible School students were here to entertain. They always do such a good performance. At Kitchen Capper on Thursday, the residents requested to make veggie pizza. Later, Elaine read from a book by local author Annette Lindaas Kanko. Elaine will be reading every Thursday from this delightful book. There was church on Friday and we want to thank Elaine Klath for providing music during the service. and we finished the work week with pretty nails and happy ½ hour. On Saturday we have Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 and real bingo at 2 p.m. The 3 pm Saturday movie matinee is “Cry from the Mountain”. A Billy Graham Association film about an emotional kayaking trip between a father and son. Our Lady of Peace will be here for music on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel.
Next week our van is going to Golden Lake to see the sights. We will also be playing Wheel of Fortune in the afternoon. Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit and rhythm Band. There are crafts on Wednesday and later it’s the Family Picnic. (See info in the below paragraph). Thursday is Name that Tune in the morning, playing board games in the afternoon and Elaine continues reading Whence you Came. There is church on Friday followed by popcorn and pretty nails in the afternoon.
Our Family Picnic is next Wednesday (August 9th) from 5-7 p.m. We will be serving burgers, potato salad, beans, chips and watermelon, there will also be cotton candy. Also special music by Larry Charon. Larry puts on a great toe tapping performance. You won’t want to miss this event. Invitations have been sent. Families we hope you can make it and come to enjoy this special time with your family member.
Resident Stan “The Man” Dakken celebrates his birthday on August 6th. Harriet Ulland and Margaret Nelson also have birthdays next week on August 7th. We have several staff birthdays – Julie Johnson (Aug 5th), Lindsey Fenske-Goodman (Aug 6th), Linnea Tracy (Aug 7th), Dawn Carter (Aug 8th), Jennifer Carr, Marylou Jacobson and Sylvia Straight on August 9th and Jean Holter on August 10th. Happy Birthday and Best Wishes to all of you.
Until next time … a thought for the week … A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because its trust is not on the branch but on its own wings. Always believe in yourself. (This was a post on Facebook that I thought was worth repeating!).
