Greetings from “The Home” front …

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round and this Monday those wheels took us for a ride out to Golden Lake.  The residents enjoyed the scenery and reminisced when Golden Lake was a slough with no houses.  They were amazed at how the area around the lake has grown and how lovely so many of the homes are.  We had a nice surprise when we returned – Doris Martinson’s daughter, Claire, was holding an impromptu sing along in the activity room – she played many old time favorites on the piano while the residents sang along. What fun!!! There was Sit & Be Fit Tuesday morning and rhythm band in the afternoon. The residents made an abstract painting on Wednesday and that night we celebrated with a Family Picnic.  There was a good turnout of family and friends to enjoy the burgers, potato salad, beans, chips, watermelon,  cotton candy and the music of Larry Charon.  It was a toe tapping good time!  Thursday there was Name that Tune in the morning, followed by some old fashion board games in the afternoon.  Elaine continued the reading from Whence You Came.  We had church, popcorn and pretty nails on Friday.  There is Bingo in the activity room on Saturday along with Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room.  The 3 p.m. Saturday movie matinee is “World Class Whitetails” – this is a hunting film that should be of special interest to our male residents and hunters. Molly will be here on Sunday for a Down Memory Lane program at 2 p.m.

Next week the van will be taking residents to Shopko on Monday for some retail therapy. It’s Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and we have a special program in the afternoon.  Lance Lindseth will be here to play the accordion and piano for our residents to enjoy.  Wednesday we continue reading Whence You Came and are playing my favorite game Bunco in the afternoon.  Later on we will be having Lemonade on the Patio.  Chuck Fox will be here for special music Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.  Prior to him performing there is Bible Study in the morning and root beer floats in the afternoon.  There is church, pretty nails and happy half hour on Friday.  We are also planning a picnic in the shelter at dinner time.

I want to mention a special activity that is “in the works” right now – a Harvest Ball for our residents.  This will be a “senior prom” for many of them and we are LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS – we need people to help with decorations, dance with the residents, take pictures nd just be on hand to help out.  If you are interested in this FUN volunteer activity, please contact Lisa in the Activities Office.

Also please mark your calendar for our Octoberfest which will be October 15th.  Raffle tickets are already on sale for a first prize drawing of $200, 2nd & 3rd prizes are a $50 gas card.  Tickets are only $1.00 and available from any auxiliary member or at the receptionist desk.
