Greetings from “The Home” front …
Lots of thank you's going out this week to special people and groups. The Aurdal Praise Singers were here last Sunday for a musical event in our chapel. They gave a wonderful uplifting performance – thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with us. Also last week Emma Tollefson organized a board game activity for our residents with members of the Mayville State SOS group, and Kayla Smith arranged for the SOS group to attend Rhythm Band on Tuesday. They sang and danced with our residents. Lots of smiles and laughter all around. Tracy McGillis LSW, has graciously offered to assist Jessica Nelson in the Social Work department until a replacement for Jackie Kraling is hired. Thanks Tracy.
We started out the week with Newscurrents on Monday morning and Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon. The residents decorated scarecrow cookies. There was Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and as mentioned above Rhythm Band with the SOS class in the afternoon. We heard some Fun Facts about Turkeys on Wednesday. For instance did you know that wild turkeys can fly 55 miles per hour and run 25 miles per hour? Our craft project in the afternoon was a thank you gift of Hershey hugs/kisses for our Veterans – the residents did a great job packaging the treats and attaching a thank you card. These thank you bags were given out at our veterans program on Friday. Later we had Resident Council. Several of our veterans were able to attend the program at MPCG on Thursday afternoon. Valley Music Makers came later in the day to perform a concert in the chapel. It is always fun to see these young musicians perform. They should be very proud of their accomplishments. After church on Friday we had our own Veterans Program to honor both our residents and staff who served in the armed forces. Veteran Service Officer Emily Cost was the guest speaker. There was also a special slide presentation with lunch following provided by the VFW Auxiliary. Saturday brings Crosswords at 2 p.m. in the activity room and Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room. The Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “Kicking and Screaming”. It is a comedy about a group of college grads who refuse to move on with their lives, each in their own peculiar way. When it was first released it appeared on several “Top Ten” lists.
Next week Lili will be here on Sunday to play Turkey Bingo at 2 p.m. Monday is busy with a Food Committee meeting and Newscurrents in the morning. Then some of our residents will be going shopping at ShopKo in the afternoon. We also have the movie White Fang 2 playing in the activity room. Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band. Its Name that Tune, Pretty Nails and Bunco on Wednesday. We have started Bible Study on Thursday mornings at 10:30 and our Peter Boe Third Graders will be here in the afternoon to visit their “adopted” grandparents. Even though it is not the last Friday of the month, the American Legion/VFW will be here Friday afternoon to play “real” bingo. This is a change in their usual schedule due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Wow – the month is really zooming by!
Resident Yvonne Bakken celebrates her birthday on November 11th and Otto Hoel has his on November 14th. Melinda Leland will be celebrating hers on November 15th. There are no staff birthdays this week.
Until next time … a thought for the week … circumstances don’t make a person, they reveal a person …
